A group of young hoodlooms break into a house and absolutely trash the place. What the gang didn't expect was the owners to come home so
early, so what’s a gang of thugs supposed to do in this situation?? Rape the wife and force her husband to watch, of course!

It seems the gang have been rather busy in the street of Amsterdam as Inspector Van Der Valk (Bryan Marshall, a UK native who emigrated into
Australia in the early 80's and has made several appearances in crappy soaps like Home & Away & All Saints!) has been following the trail of
destruction, but turning up no clues until a chance conversation with a ticket master on a train saying a group of young fellows are always coming
in from another town (which I can’t even pronounce let alone try to spell!) at the same times that all the home invasions took place.

The tip off leads Inspector Van Der Valk a rather prestigious semi-rural beach side village that is full of rich & shameless folks. Further prodding
inside this sleepy community reveals that the gang is definitely from this area, and go by the name of The Ravens. The Ravens comprise of 6
members, all sons of rich business men, who get their kicks by breaking into peoples houses and trashing them for a bit of fun. It wasn't always
this way though, as the gang just started out as petty thieves until an older man imposes himself as leader of The Ravens and uses  his teachings
and power to turn the group into a Manson-esque style cult. At around this time  an all female is gang is formed called The Cats, whose soul
objective is to pleasure The Ravens.

However this becomes part of The Ravens downfall, as one of there members squeals to Van Der Valk whilst being interrogated leading The Cats,
to shut him up permanently and ultimately bring down both gangs...

For a long time
Because Of The Cats has been classed as an exploitation film, probably because of the opening rape sequence, and because the
native Dutch title translates to
The Rape Because Of The Cats. However nothing could be further from the truth as BOTC is in essence a police
drama in a slightly Italian style, with maybe a few touches of
Clockwork Orange.

However
Because Of The Cats has a style all of its own above the usual great Euro sleaze & cheeze films of the time, in that the film has a very
natural feel and flow to it. Especially in the scenes that require nudity like Van Der Valk getting undressed and shagging a prostitute are not made
for sheer titillation value, and any party involved looks totally natural.

As for the rest of the film it mainly centers around Van Der Valk doing his duty without too much other stuff interfering, which also poses the
problem of scenery chewing even though every scene is relevant to the proceedings, the film moves along at a snails pace most of the time. Also
while I'm picking at a few things, for a Dutch film why does everyone have a bloody pommy accent? It can get somewhat distracting, but far More
distracting is the ill fitting musical cues...

Still fans of Euro Police Drama's should hunt this down because what lays here is an above average, if somewhat slow, crime thriller with a decent
amount of technicality coming from behind the camera. Also Sylvia Krystel fans may want to check this out for her, albeit short, first screen
appearances before she went onto worldwide infamy with the first Emmanuele film.

The DVDR supplied by Super Happy Fun presents an excellent crisp and clear transfer with an adequate soundtrack

"Killing is just not enough"
A gang of six wealthy, well-dressed and well-spoken hoodlums break into a married couple's house and
rape the wife while forcing the husband to watch. Thus begins a dogged investigation by a determined
detective who quickly finds that their cult-like solidarity can be a serious obstacle to breaking them.
