Kings of long lost Drive Inn sleaze & cheese, Something Weird, have been toiling away for quite a while now, bombarding the DVD market with
some of the Trashiest, Weirdest, most obscure films ever made. Some of their films are really good, some really crap, and there is stuff like this that
has to be a top five contender for strangest idea for a film to be committed to celluloid!
Steve Hawkes stars as Herschel (and is also the co scripter/director), a Vietnam vet turned Christian bikie. He meets some chick, Angel on the
highway, who then takes him to her sister Anne’s place. The problem is Anne and all her friends are Junkies, who convince Herschel to have a go
on the end of a scoob. That’s alright though, no big drama there, until Angel takes Herschel to meet her father to see about getting him some work
at her fathers Turkey farm. The problem here is that Anne & Angel’s father is a mad scientist trying to make some form of preservative or
something to go into the Turkey’s, and Herschel is used as a “Guinea Pig”.
Now is when shit starts getting wild. Herschel has a side affect from the drug used in the Turkey’s, which turns him into A GIANT TURKEY HEADED
MONSTER MAN!!!
Herschel then goes on a rampage killing anybody he see’s, except for his beloved Anne who he is still romantically entangled to. But can anything
stop Herschel from his endless killing way?
I really think I should mention again at this point, this movie is fucking out there! I have never seen anything like it, and I seriously doubt anything
like this will be made again! This is also good because it’s just one of those oddball films which on the surface just look like a big steamer, but is a
hell of a lot of fun to watch and is definitely deserving of its cult status. The budget on this thing looks non existent, which is also part of the fun.
There is almost no gore in it, but the one scene where it does pop up is so badly done its downright hilarious! A drug dealer gets half his leg cut off
by a timber drop saw, but the leg looks like a mannequin leg with a bit of steak hanging out the end of it!
Something Weird might be the kings of Drive Inn movies, but they also understand the full potential of DVD. So while the transfers are never
gleaming like Blue Underground discs, the discs themselves are always chock-a-block full all sorts of shit you always get a bargain, and this disc is
no exception. Steve Hawkes first film appearance in the short feature The Walls Have Eyes is included here, along with about 6 other short
subjects, about 10 trailers for other SW Discs, and the always cool Gallery Of Exploitation Art round out the extras.
