The combining of Horror and Porn is nothing new. Hardgore in 1974 was the first film to do such a thing, and is by far one of the better efforts of
this genre. Joe D'amato had a crack at 2 such films in 1980 (Porno Holocaust & Erotic Nights Of The Living Dead, which quite frankly are both
terribly tedious films.) A string of Vampire influenced films followed (Dracula Sucks!, Dracula Erotica, etc.) After these few efforts the "splatter-
porn" genre was rather quiet for the next 20 odd years, however there is a real resurgence happening now.
Quite possibly due to the excellent reviews that David Quitmeyer's excellent 2005 opus Slaughter Disc has been receiving, a few more efforts
have popped their heads up- Rob Rotten's Porn Of The Dead is a clear example, and then there is Blood Lake.
Whereas nearly every other previous effort was a Horror film with elements of Porn, (Hardgore & Porn Of The Dead excepted) Blood lake is a
Porno disguised as a Horror film. Hell it was released through the Hustler offshoot VCA, so you definitely know it's a genuine Porno!
The plot in blood lake is 4 chicks and 3 guys head off to a couple of cabins in the woods for a weekend away. The very second they arrive at the
cabin one of the ladies finds an old "blood book" hidden in her cabin. Somehow reading the book brings the ghastly evil preacher back from the
dead! Anyways, after reading the book it’s time for some lovin'… Hardcore style! Naturally with this being a porno there is plenty of pussy lickin’,
cock suckin’ and a lot of fucking. With apparently all these starlets being first timers- I have to admit… while it’s nice seeing some new flesh, by god
these are some pretty boring rooting scenes! Every single couple do the exact same positions, almost in the same order as the one before them!
And then we have the horror element. As soon as a couple have finished having sex, the demon preacher wastes them in some of the crappiest
(but highly hilarious in there bodginess) on screen deaths. For example, some dude gets smacked in the back of the head with an Axe and he spits
out strawberry jam from his mouth! So anyways, just like every other Slasher film, it’s down to the last person living to deal with the evil
preacher.....
Usually it's really hard to say something good about a film that is so terribly made, but this bad boy really needs to be compared with Jack Frost.
Both films are fucking terribly made (although Jack Frost has a slight edge over this film) but are so bad they are extremely entertaining, for all the
wrong reasons! Man I am serious, this film had me in stitches from laughing so hard at how crap it really is! I haven't laughed so hard at a shit film
since either Jack Frost, Pieces or even Blood Diner! However those films have a bit more of a structure than Blood Lake. Blood Lake flows so
choppy I was almost getting sea sick from it heading off in different directions every 5 seconds...
Having a running time of only 78 minutes certainly helps Blood Lake from overstaying its welcome (although apparently according to IMDB there is
a 110 minutes version as well.) However… if Blood Lake doesn’t have quite enough sex action for you, well VCA have padded out the disc with
plenty of trailers for some of their other releases, as well as including another film on a second bonus disc - Wild & Wicked Wenches (un-viewed
at this point in time), so like the cover states you definitely get more Fuck For Your Buck!
Make no mistake, this is Z grade trash, but when the outcome is this bad that the entertainment factor takes on a whole new meaning, I would
definitely say this is a recommended watch for all you cheese lovers.
