Six American grad students head deep into the jungle to meet up with a well known Professor named Hamilton (F. Murray Abraham) and his
assistant Chenne (Prapimporn Karnchanda) to study apes. When Dani (Freishia Bomambehran), Amy (Amy Manson), Greg (Matt Reeves), Sydney
(Laura Aikman), Josh (Sebastian Armesto), and Seth (Matt Ryan) meet the Professor for some strange reason thy feel he is hiding something, but
as they head further into the jungle his secret unfolds when the students begin to hear strange noises not far from there camp. The Professor
begins to fill in his students about this is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to witness a new species of Apes and promises them that they ain't
dangerous. As the group tracks the Apes every move, they quickly turn on the students and now the hunters have now become the hunted, its
now to late. The group are surrounded by a pack of 8ft high bloodthirsty apes who have grown a taste for human flesh. Can they make it until
dawn, or will the vicious apes tear them apart and pick the flesh from their carcasses?
The plot of Bloody Monkey is fairly basic like any other creature feature film, though it did resemble a few films that came to mind when I viewed
this film, Cannibal Holocaust (without the cannibals of course), The Blair Witch Project meets Gorillas in the Mist. This film didn't have much of a
budget, but surprisingly the film wasn't a flop or boring. I think what really kills the film and turns people off on the film is that when it comes to the
kill scenes, they are all done out of scene. There was only one scene and that was when a girl got her face torn apart by a killer ape, but after that
the film kind of started to go down hill as for the gore and kill scenes. As for the apes, it was definitely CGI and not some lame guy in a ape
costume, but sadly you don't see any of the apes until right to the very end of the film which sadly didn't do the film much justice.
The acting was borderline at times for me, it definitely kept me highly interested in the film, and most of all the cast took their characters seriously,
and gave it all, a very solid entertaining performance. Laura Aikman was a little cutie on screen, and very enjoyable to watch right until her
character had her face torn off. But the one person I would say who stole the spotlight in Blood Monkey was actor F. Murray Abraham who has
starred in many films and TV shows in his acting career.
The gore factor is fairly low guys, like I said before you don't actually seen the apes chewing into anyone, nor do you see then at all until right to
the very end of the film. But you definitely get to see a nice amount of blood-splatter, an arm torn off a student, a girls face torn off and someone
getting a spiked tree log rammed into their torso.
Though this is a film that is not to be taken to heart or too seriously, it is definitely an entertaining film from the start to the very end of the film.
When the film starts off it has that Cannibal Holocaust feel to it, then at the end you feel like you are watching The Blair Witch Project. I can’t
really recommend you go straight out and buy this on DVD, unless you are a huge creature feature fan and don't mind CGI and low budget effects
in a film then yeah, go ahead right now buy it on DVD. But everyone else I suggest you play it safe and rent it before you buy it.
