Well, it doesn't get much further from the mainstream than this. Viewers expecting another “killer at camp” romp are advised to look elsewhere.
This is a trip into extreme film making courtesy of Bloody Earth Films.
Made for $3,000 this film is loaded with extreme violence and plenty of deviant sexuality. No actual hardcore shagging, but plenty of full frontal
nudity, necrophilia, bondage, spanking, a transvestite or two and a rapist zombie.
The plot, or what passes for one, is pretty basic. Amy and Nick, a couple having problems with their relationship decide to go to The Pleasure
Mountain Adult Retreat. As you can probably guess from the name it's a swingers resort. And not just any old pervert paradise either. See, 40
years ago serial rapist Felix Gallo hung himself on these grounds. And now he's back...
From here the script falls into a pattern, Amy has a nightmare or vision then some other couple who we haven't seen before die a horrible death
while up to something kinky. Only near the film's end do our stars cross paths with the main plot. The script was allegedly written in under 24
hours and it shows. It's much more a series of segments than a cohesive story and it suffers for it. A couple of rewrites to tighten things up and
make the various fetishists more realistic and less bad caricatures would have helped greatly.
The killings themselves are fairly effective and the gore is certainly abundant and well done. Of particular note is a castration that will have all male
viewers cringing followed by a bound lass being choked to death with the recently severed truncheon of love. And yes, similar genital violence is
visited on the opposite sex later in the film. As I mentioned before, the violence here is extreme so be prepared.
On the acting side there's not really much to talk about. The performances or on the “read the lines off of cue cards” level for the most part. Indeed
for most of the cast this is their only credit listed on IMDB. But the women are good looking and for the most part get naked very quickly. And let's
face it, in a film like this, that's what matters.
The image quality is about what you would expect from a $3000 camcorder epic, grainy with colour bleeds like mad. In a curious way it actually
helped the film, giving it the feel of something being watched at the drive-in, where this would have been at home back in the 70s on a double
feature with the likes of Hardgore or I Drink Your Blood.
In contrast to the threadbare production values, the DVD is loaded up with extras. There are two short, (and I do mean short) films “The Roarin
20s” and “Chef Boyardemon”. For those outside the USA, Chef Boyardee is a popular brand of canned Italian food, and the pun in the short's title
may be the best thing about it. The music video is a rap track by the guy who gets his package removed in the main feature and is full of clips from
the film. I hate rap so no joy for me, if you like rap you may like it . The liner notes are actually a six page booklet that gives a lot of detail on the
filming, it's quite interesting and I would've been glad if it had been longer, but considering he wraps it up by saying he's no longer interested in
films like this I should be glad he wrote as much as he did.
So, if you like your films like you like your women, cheap, nasty and kinky you'll be enjoying this one. If on the other hand you like a bit more depth
and even some class, you'll be regretting spending the night with this bitch. Make your choice accordingly.
