Every town has its outcasts and in this small town, deep in the woods two brothers Frank (Íce Mrozek) and Donnie (Christopher Childs) try to keep
to themselves and not bother anyone. Donnie who is slightly retarded, hasn't quiet been himself  since his grandmother died and  as for his older
brother Frank, he has been and is doing his best to look after Donnie and protect him from the outside world. That’s until one night at the local
pub, Sheriffs Greene (Paul West) boy Rodney (Mark Saffold) and his friend Luke (Ryan Parks) begin to pick and make fun about Franks family, just
to impress his girlfriend Katie (Shannon Laine) and her new friend Beth (Shana Lee Klisanin). Frank fires up instantly and grabs Rodney by the
throat and warms him not to  start anything with him or his brother. A few days pass and Luke is making out in the front seat of his car with Katie,
while Rodney is passed out in the back seat in the middle of the woods, the two lovers are soon spooked by Donnie starring through the car
window at them. This gives the two boys a chance for revenge and to  take their frustrations out on Donnie by bashing him- that’s until Frank
comes to his brothers rescue in a fit of uncontrollable rage  and begins to unleash his fury onto the boys using the handle of his axe. Katie who is
scared for her life, runs  off into the woods, while the two trouble making teenagers quickly take off in the car, forgetting about Katie. A few hours
later Donnie is collecting wood and finds Katie laying flat on the ground in a pool of blood and carries her back home, just when the local Sheriff is
questioning Frank where the young missing girl is. Frank afraid of going back to jail, begins to cover his tracks by burying Katie's corpse in the wall
of his home, while the Sheriff storms off to get a warrant to search the premises. Rodney and Luke take the law into their own hands and decide
to pay Frank and Donnie an unwelcome visit, but to find Beth tied up and locked in a closet. One by one the bodies begin to pile up, the house
walls dripping with blood, while a pungent smell of rotting human flesh fills the house. Beth prepares to takes her last breath of air as she witness
them KILL, just about anyone for entering their property. It's easy to keep a hidden secret, when you’ve got an axe..

Films like
Bloodshed really opens my eyes when it comes to independent cinema. Filmmaker Jim McMahon jumps into the directors chair for the first
time and takes us on a journey deep within the woods of a small hick town, where two brothers who have a terrifying hidden dark secret try to
keep it to themselves.  Sadly they begin to find un-wanting nosey trespasses on their land.
Bloodshed is a very interesting horror/suspense thriller
film, and it’s awesome to see filmmakers like Jim McMahon tackling a movie like this head on, and come up with far more enjoyable script, and a
good concept for a horror film, than just simply remaking older films. This is one whole reason why I enjoy watching independent films. Yeah you
might have an unknown cast, the acting is a little slow and cheesy at times, but when it comes to an original script, special/visual effects, the
independent cinema is smashing its way to the top in my books. I really did enjoy watching
Bloodshed, at times it was slow paced but still
captured your attention. You can see, and feel that McMahon didn't have too much of a budget for
Bloodshed, and probably dug deep into his own
pockets to make this film, which I totally have respect for this director for doing that. But the acting definitely made up for the films budget, that’s
for damn sure.

All the cast did a fantastic job with the roles of their characters in
Bloodshed. One character I enjoyed watching the most was actor Íce Mrozek
who played Frank the psychotic axe wielding maniac. When it comes to most actors in independent films, they have a hard time showing or
convincing the audience with facial expressions and body language on screen, which then gives that cheesy effect. This isn't the case for actor Íce
Mrozek, just one glance, the way he stands and  moves… you get that feeling that this is one guy you don't want to mess with. Another actor I
didn't mind also was Christopher Childs who played the retarded brother, his performance hit the nail on the head. Again his body language was
spot on, and very believable, entertaining and became more intense towards the end of the film. And how can I forget the beautiful Shannon
Laine, who any man would drool to have cling to his arm while entering a nightclub. Shannon's also did a very outstanding and convincing
performances in
Bloodshed, especially the make out scene in the car, cause we get to see her boobies! YAY!!!

As for the gore factor, sadly there isn't much going at all. But for a film titled
Bloodshed and  ninety percent of the time maniac Frank is walking
around with an axe in his hand, you kind of expect to see heaps of blood splatter at least. Nothing we have seen already before.

Bloodshed is now released on DVD by our follow sponsor Anthem Pictures on region 1 format. Sadly Bloodshed is a barebones DVD, and has no
DVD extras, audio commentaries by the director or cast are presented on this DVD at this time.

It’s hard to give
Bloodshed the both thumbs up, due the lack in the special effects department and being slow paced. But if you take in mind that
what the director had to work with, you find this DVD to be a gem. If you enjoy watching a high suspense thriller with the cast giving it all they got
and that has not got so much blood involved in the film, well then you'll enjoy vegging out to Bloodshed one rainy weekend with a loved one. Sorry
guys, but those who want lots of blood, guts and gore in their horror films…you might want to rent this film before buying it on DVD.
