Brak the anthropomorphic space cat /pirate / whatever the hell he is, (whom you may know from Space Ghost) now has his own animated sitcom
in which he hangs out with his Latino father, his space pirate mother, Zorak (everyone’s favourite evil preying mantis), and Thundercleese his
robotic neighbour. I haven’t seen all of the first season, but I simply loved the second season which can only mean that the standard has remained
high.
The synopsis on the back of the DVD reads as follows: “Hello. How are you? Thanks for taking an interest. Do you have a DVD player? If you don’t,
throw this box away and roll grandma down the stairs. If you do, you’re in for a treat! Do you like alien boys? Like Brak, for instance. His face is on
the cover. Break has a Mom and a Dad and a lust. For life. Wait, don’t leave! Brak also has a giant mantis friend named Zorak who will gladly punch
you in your facehole. But that’s what space comedy is all about: face punching and making babies. So open up your heart and let the funshine in!"
If you’re fine with that then you’ll love this show. Like most of the other Adult Swim shows, The Brak Show episodes run for 15 minutes, and
doesn’t adhere to a formula, timeline or any of the such, it certainly doesn’t follow the Hollywood formula of equilibrium, disequilibrium, new
equilibrium. The Brak Show is absurd, stupid, corny, dumb, retarded and hilariously funny.
Each one of the characters on the show is great, even if you don’t think the absurdist humour of the show is funny, you can’t help but laugh at
Brak’s gentle but dumb personality and goofy lisp. Brak’s father, the lazy insensitive husband and father (to me he is the genius of The Brak Show
and very Bob Dobbs-esque). Thundercleese the killbot who is obsessed with his garden and gnomes (and was created by Frylock of Aqua Teen
Hunger Force fame). Or any of the other character’s who make the show so great.
There’s heaps of guests on this season, from members of other Adult Swim shows such as Meatwad, Moltar, Space Ghost, to special voice guests
such as rapper Cee-Lo and Weird Al Yankovic. Cee-Lo appears in the episode Brakstreet which is my personal favourite out of this season as Brak
enters a rap contest- believe me this episode will have you in tears, everyone from Thundercleese, Brak, Dad and Marlon the Magician enter the
rap contest and each character delivers a side splitting rap.
The set reviewed is released by Madman Entertainment and is a two disc region 4 release, with a run time of 160 minutes. There are 14 fifteen
minute episodes spread over 2 discs. Unfortunately there are no special features accompanying this set, which is a shame because most region 1
releases have loads of extras and other region 4 releases of Adult Swim titles such as Tom Goes to The Mayor, Sealab 2021 and Space Ghost:
Coast to Coast are full of extras. Still, the packaging is really nice and any fan of The Brak Show will be wanting to add this set to their collection.

The Brak Show is a story of a neighborhood. It's the story of a family. It's the story of what happens when adults have children and those children go to school. And Brak is in it. He lives in a house. A house on a quiet street not unlike yours or mine. A house in a neighborhood. That's THE BRAK SHOW.
