Women in Prison films, without a doubt these were considerably favored by Sexploitation filmmakers, and why wouldn’t they? They’re cheap to
produce, there’s a pretty big market for them within the Exploitation fan market, and most of the time they could let there fantasies run wild. The
ideas behind these films are nothing new, hell the first W.I.P. film was made in 1938! However I would imagine that film to be a completely
different animal compared to the ones that started popping up in the very late 60’s early 70’s, which themselves remained largely untouched until
the mid to late 80’s.
By far the most prolific Director of these types of films would have to be Jess Franco, he made at least 10 of them. Most of those were produced by
“legendary” European Produced and Director Erwin C. Dietrich who let Franco run wild with his own brand of sleaze & cheese, usually pushing the
boundaries of taste, most notably in Barbed Wire Dolls & Sadomania, but even Franco didn’t go as far as Dietrich would with his own effort.
Erwin C. Dietrich as a director was only in interested in 1 thing, sex and shitloads of it! From 1968 to 1980 he directed 40 films, before stopping
directing to concentrate purely on producing. His second last film was this one you are now reading about, Gefange Frauen AKA Caged Women.
I’m not going to beat around the bush (excuse the pun) here, story wise there is nothing you haven’t already seen 785 times before in a W.I.P.
film. Where this one differs though is the shear amount of flesh on display. I am not lying when I say that throughout the whole running time, the
longest span between one naked body and the next couldn’t be any long than a minute or two. Shit for the first 18 minutes the longest span
would be about five seconds!
Basically the story is about the President of a country (we are not told which one, but I assume Spain since it was filmed there) who has just had a
tip-off that the U.N. is going to be doing a raid to see if he has any dealing with the local bordellos. The hookers who work there know too much
information so he orders that all the sex workers be thrown into jail, the jail just so happens to be on a tiny island in the middle of the ocean, so
escaping is impossible.
The Prison warden just so happens to be the Presidents girlfriend, and is also one mean bitch! I must admit though I do like her forms of
punishment; when 2 of the inmates are discovered trying to escape, she punishes all the girls in the prison by confiscating all there clothing! And
for the next 40 minutes all the women are running around bare assed.
Other than that there isn’t much else to the story except the usual goings-on in a W.I.P. film, and the half assed attempt at a “twist” ending.
However don’t write the film off just coz the story is a bit lame. As a film it plays along nicely with a very brisk pace, plenty of action and so forth,
but the fucking sleaze meter on this is so far off the chart it nearly does a full circle!!
Bordering on Hardcore, we get plenty of spread eagle pussy shots, more tits than you can crack a whip at, up close female masturbation, and umm
well floppy doodles.
Also Euro Sleaze fans will see a fair few familiar faces in here as well, including Brigitte Lahaie (A fair few Jean Rollin films, as well as soft core and
hardcore porn), Karin Gambier (Voodoo Passion, Sweet Taste of Honey) Nadine Pascal (Zombie Lake, Sadomania, Elsa Frauelin SS).
This is the German ABC DVD of the film, supplied by Rare Licensed DVDs, and the print is absolutely gorgeous! For a cheap old sexploitation film
made nearly 30 years, it is absolutely mind-blowing how stunning the print scrubbed up! Sound is either English or Dutch mono, which is nice and
clear.
Extras are limited to a couple of Dietrich’s trailers: Blue Rita, Die Nichten Der Frau Oberst (Guess Who’s Coming for Breakfast), Die Teufkischen
Schwetsern (Sexy Sisters) And Eine Armee Gretchen (Frauleins in Uniform).
The sleaziest WIP film I have ever seen (and I’ve seen a fair few, I’ll tell you!) fans will love it, casual viewers should get a kick out of it, and well,
the very small percentage of you that don’t like WIP films (shame on you!!!) this probably won’t do much to change your mind, but then you never
know.
