In the opening prologue of this downright, scuzzy, sleaze fest from the prolific muckraker Dirty Joe D'amato they inform us "Caligula (Gaius Ceasar)
murdered his adopted grandfather Tiberius to assume power. He committed Incest with his sisters,adultery with his friends wives,pederasty,
flaunted the law,was a glutton,pervert and epileptic. Quite a nice bloke really. Although David Brandon plays Caligula with great conviction his
standard is still lacking behind his predecessors Malcolm Mcdowell in Tinto Brass original. Ashame also as Brandon is probably the finest performer
in this bar the Horse which we'll get to later. Even Gemser isn't that convincing even though she remains naked throughout quite a bit of this.
The story of this starts with a failed assassination attempt on Caligula by the great Michele Soavi (director of Dellamorte Dellamore, The
Church),Caligula's scribe who Caligula has his tendons in his arms and legs cut rendering him useless to write again,then has his tongue cut out in
loving detail.The story basically details Caligula's atrocities, his lack of trust in his counsel who conspire against him and a personal vendetta
between a Moor women (Gemser) who Caligula falls for and her indecision between love and hate as Caligula in a previous scene slays one of
Gemser's friends causing his girlfriend to commit Hari Kari.
The acting skills are sub par as mentioned previously and the Gore scenes a little shoddy but theres so much of it, who gives a fuck. After Soavi's
character tongue amputation we are treated to Caligula entering a threesome between a guy and two girls and before you can sing "It's Raining
men, Hallelujah" Caligula's chocers up him like Dahmer in a dead guy. Other highlights include Caligula throwing a baby against a wall, the
spearings of his untrusted counsellors by spear up there arse and out there chests until finally their family's are hacked to death. There is also a
hardcore segment which seems to try to cover for every perverts fantasy, with midget threesomes, Horse wankings and an old women thrusting
her tongue down a young guys throat while beating him off. This is just a small selection of perversities going on as i don't want to spoil everything
for you sicko's.
Although the film is quite low budget and very historically inaccurate ,the costumes are great as are the sets and Joe D'amato also managed to
squeeze 2 more porno's from the set utilizing stunt cocks and cunts and some same actors were utilized, these films being Messalina's Imperial
Orgasm and The Virgin of Imperial Rome.
The version i watched was the X Rated Kult German Version and the film changes from English to Italian with English subs. Either a problem with
my disc or X rated Kults composite to get the most complete version.
Besides this i recommend this as the best version going around. A raincoat and blow up horse would of been nice in a box set though, hahaha..
