Shannyn Sossamon plays Victoria, who has just landed in Paris to visit her sister Carolyn (played by singer Pink) a city well known for love,
romance and not to forget also the largest Catacombs in the world which contain over 7 million unidentified human remains. The bones and skulls
are stacked upon each other in a labyrinth of limestone tunnels that spreads over 200miles under the streets of Paris (not so much of a romantic
city now is it?)When the sun goes down, a group of teenagers who are friends with Carolyn secretly throw hidden rave parties deep inside the
Catacombs. Carolyn desperately wanting to show her little sis a great time in Paris, drags her to the party for one hell of a night of drinking booze,
and tries to score some drugs. Sadly that night she is warned of the of axe wielding madman who is supposedly the next antichrist, who wears a
goats skull for a mask lurks around slaughtering those who stray from the party. That following night Carolyn and her friends go skinny dipping in
a underground cave, which makes Victoria uneasy and causes a riff raft between the two sisters. Victoria storms off to go back to the Rave by
herself to avoid having to go skinny dipping with Carolyn's friends, and they unfortunately run into the blood thirsty beast. Victoria witnesses her
sister have her throat torn open and be dragged off into the dark. Victoria begins to panics and runs off screaming whilst every corner she turns,
the beast is following her every move. Lost in the dark, and the batteries in her torch are dying she must try and find her way out of the
Catacombs while a sadistic beast hunts her down.
Written and directed by Tomm Coker and David Elliot, Catacombs is basically a chase and kill flick, with a simple plot just like any other horror
movie you have seen over the years. Don't get me wrong this film will definitely keep you entertained right to the very end, but it would of been
good to perhaps see something a little fresh and new to the horror genre. At times the film kinda got boring, then it picks up and then you got to
see Pink topless showing off her puppies twice in the film, before getting her throat sliced open before dying off again. Honestly there is only so
much I can handle watching someone run around screaming and crying. But what makes up for the movie is the ending, it has a mind blowing twist
you don’t really see coming, which makes up for the hour or so you wasted sitting on your ass watching the film.
Actress Shannyn Sossamon was stunning in this film; she always manages to look good on and off screen. Even in a limestone tomb, surrounded
by corpses and human remains this actress still looked fucking hot. I loved her in 40 Days and 40 Nights (2002) and especially not to mention
Devour (2005). Pink on the other hand wasn’t ashamed to take her top off and show the goods on screen, which I had to pause, rewind and play
3 times, just to double check what I actually saw. So apart from the topless scenes, Pinks performance on screen was also stunning, believable,
and very serious at times, which was fucking awesome to see and I hope this isn’t the last we see of Pink on screen. The rest of the cast did a
fantastic job with their characters; I can’t really fault anyone to tell you the truth.
The gore factor for Catacombs was fairly low. There wasn’t too much that I can now remember that really blew my mind, apart from a guy breaking
his leg and a throat slit open that’s about it really.
Obviously you can see there wasn’t much funds that went into this film, though apart from the slight twist at the end you don’t see coming and
knowing that this film has Pink getting topless sadly I hate to say it didn’t save the film that much. I cannot really recommend you to buy this DVD
right now, unless you are a died hard fan of Pink and want to see some of her flesh, or enjoy watching horror films that focus more on the intense
side of things then you'll love this film. But personally being a gorehound, it didn’t do much for me and my expirations, but it was somewhat
entertaining.
