I'm going to be honest and admit that I have never seen either of the Creepshow film anthologys before. So that would also mean I've never read
the comics either! Nor have I seen any of the Tales from the Crypt or Tales from the Darkside films for that matter. I was into Are You Afraid of
the Dark when I was in year 7 though! And the only other anthology horror film I've watched before is one called Campfire Tales which wasn't the
best. But I was willing to give this one a shot and it turned out heaps better than I expected it to be, judging by the not so cool cover art. So it
goes to show, never judge a film by its cover! I'm even going to admit that I haven't seen Day of the Dead 2: Contagium, so I can't really
comment on the directors previous efforts. But for a direct to DVD sequel to a couple of 80s classics, this one is a decent midnight flick for when
your at home bored with nothing else to do.
The first entry 'Alice' is a about a girl who gets home from school and her dad is playing with the TV remote. Her dad presses a button and the next
thing you know she is walking outside and its deserted, not a soul in site. It cuts back to the dad and he presses another button and her family
turns into Africans and then into Spanish people. Everytime she goes into a new 'dimension' she starts to mutate into a pretty grotesque creature,
something like The Fly. There is a twist ending but if I told you it wouldn't be a twist anymore! The segment has some pretty cool use of effects and
I can pretty much call it The Fly meets Click.
The second entry is 'The Radio' and its about this security guard who steals a radio off a bum in the streets, yeah I heard you too, what kind of
idiot steals something off a bum! Anyway he goes home and turns it on and soon he starts hearing a ladies voice coming through it. She tries to
convince him to steal more things and even kill people. Seriously, this episode was so crap it reminded me of a really dodgy movie from the early
90s called The Skateboard Kid, where this kid has a skateboard that can talk to him, well this is pretty much a horror version of that but instead of
a talking skateboard, its a radio!! Pretty much just fast forward this one!
The third entry is called 'Call Girl Killer', and boy was this one of the boringest (yes I just said boring-est) films I've ever had to sit through. Its
about this guy who calls a escort to his house when his parents are out and she ends up being the local serial killer! And it turns out the bloke is
pretty much the same. It kind of reminded me of that episode of Masters of Horror 'Pick Me Up'. But on a much lesser level.
The fourth entry is 'The Professors Wife' and it was my favourite of the lot. Gory, funny, good effects. All round just a worth while watch. Its about
these two students who go to visit their old professor and after sitting down and talking to his wife, they come to the conclusion that she is a
robot. Great timing. The old man goes out to get a cake they do what anyone else would do and proceed to start hacking her up to see if, like in
Terminator 2, an Endoskeleton is underneath! Turns out their isn't so they hide all the body parts in random places in the kitchen, and the old
man gets a good suprise when he returns! This is a pure gorehound film and although quite full on, it remains pretty comedic the whole way
through.
The fifth is the honestly the hardest entry to sit through, its called 'The Haunted Dog' and its about a homeless guy who haunts a doctor for giving
him a hotdog (off the ground) that he choked on!! Talk about bad luck!! Anyway turns out the doctor is a bit of nasty old bastard and deserves
what he gets. But the ending is just so pathetic and made me think; "I just wasted about 20 minutes of my life to see that stupid excuse for an
ending". It makes the ending to Shyamalan's The Village look good. And that takes alot. Seriously a kid in year 5 could make up an ending that is
better than that. There was just nothing going for it, no horror, no scares, nothing.
The film was edited nicely, looked liked it had a decent (and by decent I mean in Indie terms) budget and looked like a professional film. It was
worth my time. The camera work was all well done and some of the shots were pretty cool, 'Alice' had great cinematography. It wasnt a film I had
on my wishlist but after watching it I'm keen to track down the two previous Creepshow films and watch them. The acting was all standard but I
honestly still felt like I couldn't say a bad thing about most characters, except the doctor in the last entry, at first he is funny but then he just gets
unbearable. The stories were all scripted well and the actors looked like they had fun with the scripts. The stories are all joined with no real stop
before the next one begins which can get a little stupid but after about 2 minutes you realise your watching a new film. A few of the characters are
also in various segments like the homeless man who gets his radio stolen in 'The Radio', plays the same homeless man in 'The Professors Wife' so
that adds a bit of originality to the film overall. And its got a bit of funny comedy so it evens out the horror on the way too.
The episodes all run for about 25 minutes or so, so they are all easy to sit down and get into because it doesn't pan out the story heaps, it just
gets straight to the point. A bit like Fear Itself and Masters of Horror. There is a 25 minute Making-of on the DVD which is pretty good and has a
bit of behind the scenes footage. The only other extras on the disc is some trailers for other Umbrella releases. I'm really glad zer0hal0 let me
review this DVD because I honestly would probably of never seen it other wise and I really enjoyed some of the shorts, well only really 'The
Professors Wife' and 'Alice'. I'll probably get flamed by the fans of the original but who cares - Go and rent it and see what you think!

Creepshow 3 revives the venerable horror anthology feature with a quintet of grisly stories that are a must-see for horror buffs and fans of the original film (famously helmed by George Romero and written by Stephen King) and its sequel. This third installment in the legendary anthology series features five new tales of unspeakable horror - a serial-killer prostitute meets a client with a horrible secret in "Call Girl"; a pair of students takes a hands-on approach to discovering whether their former professor's new bride is human or mechanical in "The Professor's Wife"; a new TV remote wreaks havoc on the mind and body of a bratty schoolgirl in "Alice"; communication devices are possessed in "The Radio"; and noone can escape hauntings from beyond in "Haunted Dog".
