Ten years ago, a psycho killer named Jonah (Dave Warden) was incarcerated in a mental institution after brutally murdering two innocent girls,
Colleen (Brittney Coyle), and Samantha (Chelsey Coyle), at his family's amusement park attraction called "
Dark Ride." Now Jonah has escaped the
mental institute and is returning back to home sweet home! Unfortunately, six teenagers, Cathy (Jamie-Lynn DiScala), Bill (Patrick Renna), Steve
(David Clayton Rogers), Jen (Andrea Bogart), Liz (Jennifer Tisdale) and Jim (Alex Solowitz), who are on a road trip decide to hang out in the
abandoned amusement park for kicks and to save a few dollars before heading off to spring break. It’s not long before Jonah begins to fall back
into his old ways and gives the teenagers one last ride they will never forget before adding their lifeless bodies to the attraction forever.

Dark Ride is a pretty straight forward film. In fact this film kinda reminded me of an early film by Tobe Hooper called The Funhouse. The only thing
that was kinda cheesy about this film is the fact that a bunch of teenagers break into the amusement park on the same night Jonah breaks out of
the mental institution. You pretty much know what is going to happen and who is going to survive once the teenagers start telling scary stories
and urban legends to scare each other. Another thing that bothered me was that once the teenagers knew they weren’t alone, they couldn’t seem
to be able to find their way out of the amusement park attraction. What is so hard to figure that out?  You have rails on the floor that the carts roll
on right? You just follow the fucking rails to the exit door or even to the entry door. But don't get me wrong, Dark Ride is an enjoyable film to chill
out to one cold, dark night. You just have to watch it with you brains switched off and I just wish it had more punch to its scare factor.

The acting was pretty enjoyable, though at times I was either getting right into the film or at some parts drifting off. It was cool to see Patrick
Renna on screen once again. Growing up I enjoyed watching this guy play in
The Sandlot Kids, Son In Law and most of all National Lampoon's
Dorm Daze
, but every time I see him, all I can think of is Pauly Shore squeezing his chubby cheeks in Son In Law. But overall Patrick plays a solid
role in
Dark Ride, and delivers outstanding entertainment. The rest of the cast was awesome to watch and did a tremendous job with each of
their characters, but Patrick Renna was probably the one who stands out the most in this film.

The blood and gore factor wasn't too bad, to tell you the truth. You get to see a bit of everything in
Dark Ride, from teenagers getting their
intestines ripped out, to getting impaled on steel spikes, to a decapitation scene that will get you laughing, plus a head getting split in half and a
shitload of blood splatter and more gore scenes that I won’t spoil for you. Horror and gore fans will definitely get their kicks out of this film that's
for damn sure.

Those who are sick and tired of watching their old gory slasher flicks and want to watch something new but not so fresh, this is the film you want
to watch and even own on DVD. Those who take their horror movies seriously, I suggest not buying this one DVD right now and you renting it first.
But overall Dark Ride is a cool, laid back, and frighteningly interesting new slasher horror movie that you might enjoy watching one day soon.
