Lt Bobby Quinn (Dean Cain) and a small group of Special Forces commandos that were handpicked are sent into Cambodia on a highly classified
mission. When they reach their destination, they find the shack is filled will scorpions under black fluorescent lights and bloody limbs are all over
the floor. Before they know it the small wooden shack is overrun by flesh-eating zombies, and the scientist who was hiding in a locker breaks open
the door and throws a grenade into the mist of the feeding frenzy in fear of turning into a zombie. A few days later Lt Bobby Quinn, who has been
classified as DOA, awakes in a army base morgue, right before the coroner (John Billingsley) is about to perform an autopsy on him. Quinn begins
to get an extremely sharp pain in his arm and grabs the scalpel and starts to slice open his arm and one of the scorpions runs out of his wound
and onto the autopsy table. A sexy doctor named Dr Boyce (Natassia Malthe) who is the middle of having a shower is called to aid Lt Quinn, and is
shocked to see Quinn walking and talking. Quinn soon starts to realize that he has a few good qualities of being dead; he has super human
strength, heals in a matter of minutes and has a strong sense of smell and hearing. But with the good comes the bad - he develops a taste for raw
meat, has green blood and very pale white skin. Quinn isn't the only one to resurrect from the dead, though. His former squad who accompanied
him in Cambodia are all slowly returning to life, but this time they are full blown flesh-eating zombies. Lt Quinn and an innocent army cook named
Hieronymous Judson (Guy Torry) are the first to encounter the zombie infestation which occurs in the kitchen, where the two are soon after court
marshaled for manslaughter for killing a solider, doctor and the coroner. Quinn and Judson both team up with a young attractive barmaid Holly
(Susan Ward) to track down the other special forces soldiers before they infect anyone else and hope to God it doesn't spread to the civilian
population.
Dead and Deader is basically your average B grade zombie film, with a large amount of well known faces, who you really don't get to see that
often on screen now days. Such as Peter Greene (Pulp Fiction and Judgment Night), the beautiful Ellie Cornell (House of the Dead 1 and 2,
Halloween 5), and not to mention the gorgeous Natassia Malthe (DOA: Dead or Alive, Skinwalkers and Chaos) all did a fantastic job as usual on
screen with their characters. Considering Dead and Deader was a TV movie, it was a fairly entertaining gory zombie film. A lot of you would
probably remember Dean Cain in the TV Series called Lois and Clark, yeah that’s right all you superman buffs, Dean is now playing a superman
zombie, well if ya want to call it that. I had my doubts at times with Dean taking on a lead role as a zombie, but the guy does play an awesome
role as a super hero on screen. The actor who I believe stole the spotlight would had of been Guy Torry. His sense of humour when people are
getting chewed and ripped apart was priceless, and who needs a jacket when locked in the freezer, just use the stripper’s bra as ear warmers
while sucking back a cold beer.
Writers Mark A. Altman and Steven Kriozere wrote a pretty interesting script for this film, they even went as far as to give a little shout out to
George Romero and his blockbuster zombie film Dawn of the Dead and how the remake is a pile of shit and didn't deliver the same effect and
message that Romero did with his film. Also they run down director Michael Bay by having a officer say to Quinn "Your story has more holes in it
than a Michael Bay film," after he explained what happened in the kitchen. But for those who don't know who Michael Bay is? Well, he is the guy
who directed Bad Boys 1 and 2, Armageddon, The Island and the new up and coming movie we are all fucking dying to watch Transformers. Also
while watching this film you will hear two police officers named Officer Raimi and Officer Campbell in the film, and later on when the trio are on the
run, they break into a fancy dress store where Dean Cain is dressed like Don Johnson from Miami Vice, Guy Torry grabs the Michael Jackson
Thriller jacket and Susan Ward looks like Madonna from the Material Girl film clip. I guess the 80's had a strong impact on the director Patrick
Dinhut and writers Mark A. Altman, Steven Kriozere to add these scenes into the film, it was truly awesome to watch and brought back so many
memories.
The special effects in Dead and Deader were, I guess, borderline. I love my zombie films gory and violent as hell, but take into consideration that
for a TV movie, it does contain a large amount of blood and gore. You will get to see many decapitations by a butcher’s knife and ceiling fan, deep-
fried zombie, many dismembered body parts, fingers chewed off, headshot scenes and much, much more. But take into account this is a B grade
movie, so some of the scenes do look fake from time to time but not to the point where it will bore you to death.
Overall, Dead and Deader is cool, easy-going zombie film, with many of the cast doing a awesome job with their characters. But this film is not to
be taken seriously like most other zombies films; this movie is mainly directed to those who have a love for comedy horror involving zombies. If you
are cool with that, then I highly recommend you give this film a go one day soon, you will definitely love it like I did.
