Quinn Taylor (Devon Sawa) and his best friend Nick (Steven Schub) are on their way back home to the states with a suitcase of Spanish Fly, which
they purchased in Mexico. The two decide to stop into a gentlemen's strip club on the highway called Devil's Den, to test out their new party drug
on some of the erotic dancers. While the night is still early, more lonely, horny men arrive to the club for private lap dances and to have a few
drinks. A stripper named Jezebel (Dawn Olivieri) offers Quinn a private lap dance back stage, where soon after Quinn's life will turn for the worst.
Jezebel slowly turns in to a flesh-eating ghoul and tries to devour Quinn alive. Quinn is saved by a gun-slinging assassin named Caitlin (Kelly Hu)
who kicks down the door and blows the demon back to hell. Before she can reload, other ghouls begin to crawl out of the dark shadows, hungry
for human flesh. Quinn and Caitlin quickly get back inside the club to warn everyone of the ghouls, but its too late as all the other strippers have
turned into flesh-eating ghouls and start attacking the customers. Leonard (Ken Foree) who had a strange feeling that the club was infested by
ghouls, pulls out his samurai sword and starts slicing and dicing the ghouls into little bitty pieces. Soon after, Caitlin, Quinn, Leonard, and the new
waitress named Candy (Karen Maxwell) all find themselves back-to-back against the demons and start trying to figure out a way to get out of the
strip club alive. Leonard, though, has his own personal mission and is out to seek revenge by beheading them all.
Devil's Den is rather a strange and kinda new spin-off to the Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino film From Dusk ‘Til Dawn (1996) and
Tarantino’s Kill Bill (2003) film. Instead of vampires, though, the film has ghouls, which still kinda look like vampires but instead of feeding on blood
they feed from human flesh, kinda like a cannibal or zombie. The Devil's Den doesn't hold up to the cult classic Dusk ‘Til Dawn. Sadly the story
isn't original, just a lousy spin off, into which they throw in a good handful of well-known actors. But don't get me wrong guys, Devil's Den does
hold up on the blood and gore level, and is entertaining to watch. I was just hoping that the dialogue in this film would be new and fresh, but it
was a real letdown.
Devon Sawa would have to be the guy who steals the spotlight in Devil's Den. The guy is an amazing actor and has proved so in Final
Destination (2000) and Idle Hands (1999). Ken Foree with his double-barreled shotgun and a samurai sword is one badass ghoul hunter, but
whatever this guy does on camera is always fucking awesome. Ken doesn't have to say shit in a film and he lights up the screen. Every time I see
this guy in a film, straight away I think of George Romero's Dawn of the Dead (1978), in which he kicked ass and now he’s still kicking ass in Devil’
s Den. Another new and upcoming actress that got my attention, not just with her beautiful looks but also with her acting skills, was Karen
Maxwell. She definitely had me gobsmacked and amazed as she plays a new waitress that is hired trying to make ends meet by serving beers to
drunken slobs in the club. And not to mention the beautiful Chinese-Filipino-Hawaiian goddess Kelly Hu - fucking wow. A woman who knows how to
kick ass and still look friggin’ hot, while roundhouse kicking ghouls, definitely gets a lot more than two thumbs up from me. Is their anything that
Kelly can’t do? Hell, they should have gotten Kelly to play the role of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider and fucked off Angelina Jolie, at least then the films
would have been much more entertaining to watch and much better to perv.
The Devil's Den is a fun film to watch; those who are hardcore Dusk ‘Til Dawn fans will mock and hate this film to death. But if you can get over
the fact, this film is so much like Rodriguez and Tarantino’s film Dusk Til Dawn that you might end up loving this film. I know I certainly enjoyed this
film and I believe you will also.
