We all know that this was not THE FINAL CHAPTER but at the time I believe Paramount intended to end the series and lay Jason to rest for once
and for all but as Cyndi Lauper once sang “money changes everything” and big box office returns ensured that
FRIDAY THE 13TH would live on
and I think we horror fans are all the better off for it.

THE FINAL CHAPTER picks up right after the events of
FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 3 (1982) Police and paramedics are busy cleaning up the mess
deformed serial murderer Jason Voorhees left at Higgins Haven and that happens to include the man himself. They haul his not-so-dead body off to
the Wessex County morgue, but you can't keep a good killer down and Jason rises again, kills morgue doctor, Axel (Bruce Mahler), and Nurse
Morgan (Lisa Freeman) and after that warm-up makes his way back to his old killing grounds Crystal Lake. Before Jason gets there though we
meet the Jarvis family: mum (Joan Freeman), daughter Trish (Kimberly Beck) and son Tommy (played by future child superstar Corey Feldman). Next
door to them a group of friends have rented the house for a wild weekend and among their number is another future star the ever creepy Crispin
Glover (who’s dance had become the stuff of legend). Tommy and Trish also meet up with Rob (Erich Anderson) who is hunting Jason to get
revenge for his sister who was killed by Jason in
FRIDAY THE 13TH PART 2 (1981). So Jason has a bit of a smorgasbord of victims to choose
from. And once the big guys turns up and starts to pick them off in some of the best and nastiest kills in the series it all builds up to a very well
done showdown that I will not spoil for the few who have not seen it but I will say that what happens to Jason - holy shit!! Makes me go off every
time.

One of the things that made fans get excited when this film went into production was that Tom Savini was returning if only to kill Jason and he
works his usual magic: he brings us a great looking Jason and I don't even need to say how great the kills are. Tom teams up again with director
Joseph Zito the two had worked together on another slasher classic
THE PROWLER (1981) and Zito keeps us on the edge of our seat
throughout and brings what I believe is the best 3rd act of the entire series: it’s scary, fast moving and if this was truly the end of the series would
have left the franchise on a high note.
Former stuntman for John Wayne and many other legends Ted White dons the hockey mask this time rounds and for my money makes the second
best Jason a big brutal hulk and I don’t think as a character Jason has ever been as scary as in this installment. Ted White has said that he only
took the role for the money and seemed to be at odds with director Zito over the treatment of the cast. White refused to be credited for his role as
Jason Voorhees but despite all this he makes a great Jason. The rest of the cast are all great with Kimberly Beck as a great lead and some good
support from the likes of Feldman, Glover and a funny turn by Lawrence Monoson, and even though it was getting a little the same old - same old
by this movie, Harry Manfredini’s score is still great and ranks up there with the great horror scores (
Jaws, Halloween etc.)

Paramount gives us the uncut version which in its self is an extra, one of the few times region 4 wins out over region 1 as I believe in the US they
only got the cut version. The only extra is the trailer that sells the film very well and would have had me pumped back in 1984. We get a shit load
of subtitles and language tracks but other than that this is a bare bones DVD.  I have read however that we will be getting a special edition of THE
FINAL CHAPTER plus PART 5 and 6 in June so there is something to look forward to.

This is a classic horror that needs be in any fan’s collection and now days you can pick this and the rest of the series up dirt cheap so head out and
grab a copy, you wont be sorry.

After the confrontation with Chris, Jason presumed dead, is taken to the Wessex County Morgue. There
he escapes killing an attendant and a nurse before making his way back to Crystal Lake Camp. Six
teenagers rent a cabin next to the Jarvis’ in Crystal Lake. Soon Jason finds his way to eliminate all who
trespass but not for long. There are two survivors left, a girl and her little brother, Tommy Jarvis.

The final battle will define their destiny, be prepared for the Final Chapter.
