I guess you can say this installment is a little bit of a white trash story where a young girl who has the ability to move things with her mind, like
Carrie from
Stephen Kings: Carrie (1976) goes one on one with the Camp Crystal Lakes serial killer, Jason Voorhees (Kane Hodder).

A seven year old girl named Tina Shepard (Lar Park Lincoln) witnesses her alcoholic father verbally and physically abusing her mother one night.
Somehow the fight unlocks a hidden ability deep within Tina, which once unleashed results in her father’s death.
Nine years later Tina and is still emotionally traumatised from that dramatic day. Tina’s mother Amanda Shepard (Susan Blu) seeks help from a
psychiatrist named Dr. Crews (Terry Kiser). Dr. Crews agrees to help Tina battle her inner demons and telekinetic powers by inviting them both to
his private house down by Crystal Lake, where he thinks the soothing surroundings could possibility benefit Tina.
A bunch of teenagers rent out the house next door for a surprise birthday party weekend, where they await the guest of honour. But in the
meantime it’s party central as the teens indulge in unprotected sex, large quantities of beer and drugs to pass the time.
One late night Dr. Crews exploits Tina’s ability pushing her beyond her limits, which upsets her as she tries to bring back her long lost dead father
from Crystal Lake. Instead though Tina raises the monstrous masked killer Jason Voorhees, who, breaking free from the chain around his neck,
emerges from the murky waters to feed his blood lust slaughtering the innocent campers surrounding Crystal Lake. The only one who can stop the
bloodshed is Tina as her telekinetic powers are put to the ultimate test when she tries to kill off Jason Voorhees once and for all.

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood was directed by make-up artist John Carl Buechler who was quickly thrown the job to create an
entertaining sequel. Shooting commenced around winter of 1987 and the film was released 6 months later on May 13, 1988. Buechler has always
admitted that this film was rushed too quickly and that if he could have had more time to work on the movie (which he offered to do free of charge
but was declined as the anxious studio wanted to quickly cash in) it would have been a better film. For those of you who are die hard fans of this
series you will clearly see several major plot holes, faults and story errors (Which they seemingly always manage to ignore in every “
Friday the
13th
” film) within this installment. But if you can set aside all the fine details and get over the cheesy ending you’ll actual enjoy it far more than you
expect.

When you hear the words
Friday the 13th, the first three things you instantly think of are Jason Voorhees, Betsy Palmer and of course Kane
Hodder. Am I right?!?!  Well for some strange reason I always thought that Kane Hodder’s first role as Jason Voorhees was in
Friday the 13th
Part VI: Jason Lives
, but I was completely wrong on that. Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood was Hodder’s first role as Jason and once
you watch this movie you can clearly see why so many
Friday the 13th fans enjoy this actor. I can’t honestly fault Hodder one bit when it comes to
taking on the role of Jason Voorhees.  The man does a tremendous job every time he is put behind the mask.  Not only is Hodder a talented actor
but he also performed all his own stunts in this film, which included falling through the stairway, and having the porch roof fall on his head. You
name it, he’s fucking done it, talk about being hardcore.

Throughout the movie there are some memorable moments when it came to the kill scenes, two particular scenes are the good old sleeping bag
death and the other one which I rewind and paused so many times, was when Tina is using her telekinetic powers to tighten Jason’s hockey mask
straps which results in splitting the mask into two, revealing his decaying and deformed face. But once again they had to make major cuts in this
movie and many scenes were cut back just so it could get the MPAA tick of approval.

The tits and ass factor was fairly strong in this sequel when compared to the previous movies too. None of those fake plastic boobs either, its all
natural, just the way I like it. So if you like a bit of flesh in your horror movies then you’re pretty much set with this title.

In the DVD extra department.... oh who am I kidding, there are no extras…  Pfft...

Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood is a pretty cool movie, yes it might not make 100% sense at times but Kane Hodder’s performance as
Jason going off his nut pays out in the very end. Plus it was also good to see someone finally able to give Jason a run for his money. If you haven’t
seen this movie yet, I suggest you start from the beginning of the series and then work your way towards this one. Nothing worse than not
understanding the whole series or rushing into it.

Ever since homicidal maniac Jason Voorhees got trapped in chains at the bottom of Crystal Lake, the
nearby summer camp has operated without a hitch... without a murder. But one of this season’s happy
campers has brought along a deadly secret.

Tina Shepherd can see the future and levitate objects. Her doctor knows just how dangerous
telekinesis can be, but he’s out to exploit her, not help her. And now it’s too late. Tina has accidentally
unchained Jason from his watery grave – and the bloodbath is underway.

Tina's special powers are her only hope for survival. But what chance does a teenage girl have against
an axe-wielding maniac?
