Looks like Jason Voorhees is finally sick of living in the sticks and has decided to pack his bags and head off to the big apple - New York City. Well
for those of you who have already seen
Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988), you’re in for a real treat as this one continues a few
years after part VII.

As Jason Voorhees (played by Kane Hodder a second time) lays dormant, chained dead on the bottom of lake, a passing boat filled with graduating
teens is drifting by the silent waters of Camp Crystal Lake. The boat’s anchor, dragging in the murky water, snags onto a power line and Jason
Voorhees is once again resurrected. It’s not long until Jason is onboard the boat and as 2 teenagers are having sex in the lower deck of the cabin,
he finds a harpoon gun and sticks it to them. The next morning, a senior class of Lakeview High board a cruise ship called the SS Lazarus for the
school’s graduation and set off to New York City. But guess who sneaks on board the cruise ship without a ticket, yes you guessed it, Jason
Voorhees is going to New York City. And to get the party started the cruise ship is filled with horny-sex-crazed-teenagers who are soon introduced
to this unstoppable masked monster.

To this day I can still remember when this VHS came out at my local video store. Months before it came out on rental I had seen the trailer and
seeing Jason standing in Times Square in New York City and everyone freaking out sent cold chills up my spine. I was practically jizzin’ in my
boxers, so you can just imagine how excited I was when I was holding the video in my grubby little hands. I couldn’t wait to get home and watch
the damn thing. Riding my BMX home, I had visions of the brutality, chaos and bloodshed this monster was going to get up to in the big smoke as
Jason always managed to go berserk on any son of a bitch he came in direct contact with. Once I got home, I quickly made myself a Milo and then
headed for the lounge room VCR. Well… the first 20 minutes of the movie was like all the other
Friday the 13th movies, then once Jason got on
board the cruise ship, the kill scenes came flooding in. But then finally when Jason had made his way to New York City, as he walk the streets and
subways of Manhattan the fucking guy didn’t really do anything. Walking straight past dozens of people, he was too busy playing cat and mouse
with a couple of remaining teenagers who had survived the cruise. Man was I furious, heartbroken and really pissed off, I soon found myself
screaming at the television “Fucking kill them all Jason, what’s wrong with you?”  How the hell can my No:1 slasher of all time go completely limp!!!
What were the writers thinking when they wrote the damn script!!! How the hell can they let this even happen, why, why god damn it, why!!!!

To this day I believe
Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan was nothing but a quick cash in and most of all, the worst of the whole
entire series. After
Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988), the damn series went completely fucking spastic, I should have put two and
two together when in The New Blood Jason died by drowning in the lake. Oh wait, wasn’t he a fucking zombie to begin with? Man what I would
love to do to the writers who came up with this concept for a sequel.

Kane Hodder takes on the role of Jason Voorhees for a second time and there is no doubt this actor/stuntman is the extreme Jason of them all and
owns the right to sit on the throne to the complete series. But not even Kane could save this movie.  I blame the writers, Victor Miller and director
Rob Hedden for destroying the movie. But I guess this shit was going to happen sooner or later, as every slasher series eventually hits rock
bottom. Sadly it had to happen to Jason taking on Manhattan.

The kill scenes are just like all the previous movies combined. Surprisingly Jason Voorhees did have a few more new toys to play with this time like
ramming a hot rock into the chest of a teen, beheading a boxer on a rooftop which gives a new meaning to KO, a few throat slits, axe to the back
of the head and whole bunch of blood splatter scenes. Sadly this movie is fairly tame compared to the previous
Friday the 13th movies, as many
of the death scenes are shot off camera. Though word has it that this film was heavily cut back to avoid getting the X rated stamp, so lets just
hope that maybe one day we will get to see an unrated version.

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan did manage to cause a few problems before it hit the cinemas. As the theatrical poster had a
hockey mask of Jason tearing through an "I Love New York" poster, it wasn’t long until the New York Tourism Committee started complaining about
copyright and the posters were all quickly withdrawn from cinemas. Also actor/stuntman Ken Kirzinger who landed the role of Jason Voorhees in
Freddy Vs. Jason (2003) played a short role in this film, as the man that was thrown over the counter in the New York diner by Jason. If Kane
only knew that Ken was going to cut him out of a deal, I think he might have been thrown a little harder, if you know what I mean.

Once again this particular release is a dud just like the movie when it comes to the DVD extras, as you only get to watch a theatrical trailer. Oh
wait, they forgot to add it to the DVD. It clearly has it printed on the back as an extra. That’s it I want my money back.

I personally can’t really recommend that people go straight out and buy this DVD. It’s the weakest one of the series, but not the worst, if only they
were to ever release a uncut version with all the death scenes intact, then hell yeah, it would be well worth owning. But who am I kidding, you’re
going to watch, buy, own, collect, rent this movie no matter what I say, so what are you waiting for? Just don’t get your hopes up too much
Voorhees fans, or you’ll want to commit suicide.

Start spreadin' the news, Jason's making a brand new start of it, in the city that doesn't sleep.

The masked slasher stows away on a cruise ship carrying Crystal Lake teens to the Big Apple. Not
surprisingly, Jason's feral ways don't seem out of place on the mean streets of NYC, and the locals
hardly pay him any mind at all. This reaction greatly dismays the few terrorized teenagers who've
survived the blood-soaked boat trip. Psycho-fiend Jason Vorhees returns to slice up The Big Apple. Back
from his watery grave, the diabolical Jason turns a teen-filled love boat into the ultimate voyage of the
damned.
