The directorial debut of sometime actor Francis Von Zerneck (the other woman, dark secrets, combat high) gods lonely man tells the story of Ernest
Rackman (Michael Wyle) who works as a clerk in an adult bookshop and who spends all his spare time abusing drugs in his run down apartment for
the first part of the movie we basically see Ernest going through his daily routine of dealing with the sleaze that comes into the store and buying
drugs from dealers on the street Ernest also has a crush on the shop owners daughter who he works with and one day he finally gets enough
courage to tell her how he feels but like most everything else in his life it doesn't go as planned and he first asks her for sex then ice cream, she
doesn't take to kindly to this and Ernest is fired soon after, this is when the shit really hits the fan for Ernest and he decides shit really needs to
change drastically he contemplates and attempts suicide, but cant even do this right so instead he offs his scum bag drug dealer,we then see
Ernest again several weeks later when he attends an alcoholic anonymous meeting he was invited to by Christiane (Heather McComb) a 15 yr old
he had a brief run in with earlier in the film, over a lunch scene Ernest finds out Christiane is a hooker and is being abused by her father, Ernest
agree`s to help her and eventually finds out the whole story which involves a pedophile ring who is also into making snuff films, Ernest arranges to
meet them posing as a potential customer of one of the films and after we are treated to the snuff kiddie porn movie Ernest goes ballistic and offs
all three of the fuckers with extreme force.

Although there is countless taxi driver influenced scenes in this movie most notably the lunch scene, this movie definitely stands on its own as a
bleak masterpiece and is at times even grittier and more real feeling then scorcese film

The pay off at the end of the movie is well worth the effort of sitting through this one and seeing Ernest slowly slip further and further into drug
induced psychosis, depression and madness is enough to keep anybody interested throughout. All though hardly jam packed with violence through
out its running time when the scenes of violence do occur they hit you like a baseball up side the head. Its also well shot and featuring great
acting and a tone so grim you may feel like slitting your wrists several times throughout this film is a definite must see for any fan of films like
combat shock, taxi driver, i stand alone and when you coming back red ryder?

Disturbing and way more horrific then most of the so called horror movies that came out around the same time a bleak classic.
