Its 1986 in Alabama, a young happily married man named Burton (Cullen Carr) is having a real bad day, his boss decides to make a example out of
Burton by firing him, just because he arrived late to work. Burton drops into the local video store for the first time to grab a few videos for his
beloved wife to watch, but before heading home the beautiful video clerk (played by Mindy Wester -
Alice's Misadventures in Wonderland) try's to
hit on him before he leaves the store. As soon, as Burton takes one step into his house he begins to hear strange sounds coming from the end of
the house, he finds his wife Becky (Mia Frost - Hide and Creep) in bed with his best friend (Nick Crawford). Burton storms out of the house and
heads straight to the local pub, but not before burning down his home. Burton becomes a depressed alcoholic bar fly for several months, and
hasn't yet got over the fact what his wife and best friend did to him, until one night Becky runs into him in the bar claiming she is pregnant, she
makes out Burton's is the father, in a desperate attempt to get him back into her life. This sends him off his head and he tells her to "fuck off and
get away from him", when Burton is just about to leave the pub he losses his balance and stumbles into a biker (Kyle Holman) in the bar, before
getting into his truck pissed off his tits. Just when he thought his life can't get any worst than what it already is, that following night he becomes a
wanted man for assaulting a cop with a beer bottle, he is seduced by the video clerk/cult leader where soon after he is ruffied, then wakes up the
following morning staked to the ground, while one of her disciples video tapes his vicious torture while she "the cult leader" masturbates to his
cries and screams. Will Burton escape the demented cult, or will he be another snuff film in the cult leaders private video collection?.....

Cullen Carr has made one hell of a trippy 80 cult exploitation film called
Golden Age. This film only goes for a short 30 minutes but within that time
frame you get to see so much nudity, sex, torture it isn't funny. The plot is fairly simple and straight to the point, which we like to see from time to
time, but Carr even takes the time to pay homage to the almighty Ruggero Deodato's
Cannibal Holocaust with the classic wooden staked scene
"you know the scene where the young cannibal girl with the wooden pole rammed up her ass and out of her mouth" which was beautifully shot,
but he had to go one step higher though by adding a pile of dead bodies the cult group have mutilated and raped underneath her hanging feet. It
was also nice to see heaps of old 80's horror posters pinned all over the walls though out the film, but since the movie was supposed to be back in
1986 i notice a few posters on the walls that weren't released until 1987 and 1988.

The acting in
Golden Age isn't cheesy what so ever, as you know some independent films come off lame, cheesy acting and with a fucked up
dialogue. I was amazed that Cullen Carr's performance and he actually took his role very seriously and so did all the other cast, being a
filmmaker/actor it would have to put allot of pressure and stress on him, but not Carr he definitely nailed his character. Kyle Holman you might
remember him in
Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland, or from Hide and Creep, well in this film he stars as a rough biker who has a love for
poetry while he torturers his victims, i couldn't get enough of this guy on screen, he reminded me so much of Charles Manson it wasn't funny, very
cool calm but the type of guy you don't wanna mess with. Oh i cant forget the beautiful Mindy Wester, damm if i ever get ruffied and raped by a
women, i can only wish that she would look half as hot as her.

Now their is plenty of blood and gore to get any horrorfan there jerk on, but for a short 30 minute film you get to see a women at the beginning
that is tied to a chair and tortured, her tongue cut out of her mouth, then stripped naked and hanged in the basement by a noose, all that is in the
first 5 minutes of the film. If you don't get a kick out of that, well then you might later on in the film, but i wont go into right now cause i don't want
to spoil the film for you.

This is Carr's first time in the directors chair, so keep in mind this movie is a low budget film, no more than a few grand have been throwin into this
film, so don't expect to see mind blowing block busting effects. Overall
Golden Age is a very entertaining film and it will grab your attention as soon
as you click play on your remote, the warning message at the start was a beaut to watch, you will get a warning and then a 10 second count
down will occur, warning you to turn it off or leave the room. Trust me this isn't a film for younger children or people who don't like film such as
Last
House On the Left
, I Spit On Your Grave to watch.

The only let down i can say about
Golden Age is the ending. Not that it's bad or anything, just that you get so deep into the film and before you
know it, 30 minutes feels like 10 minutes. I only wish this was a full length featurette film, but still in the 30 minutes it does deliver what the
director wanted, so you gotta respect that.

The
Golden Age hasn't yet found its way on your video shops shelves, or on any DVD stores on the net. To view this film you must head over to
Cullen Carrs official myspace website at
www.myspace.com/goldenagemovie and email him personally, and please if you own or work at a
distribution company, you need to check out this movie as soon as possible. Cullen Carr has a lot of potential as a filmmaker/writer and actor,
Golden Age needs to released officially on DVD to all the world. I personally hope this isn't going to be the last film we see from Carr, i can't fucking
wait to see what next film he is going to do.
