Another stellar collection from After Hours Cinema's Storefront feature series, this double DVD set gives us four soft core early 70s one day
wonders that will make you wonder just what our parents got up to. All four films have been lovingly restored but there’s still plenty of crackle,
pop, lines, marks and dirt to make you think you’re sitting in the back of some sleazy little cinema in a raincoat waiting for the stripper to come on.
How To Make A Dirty Movie (1971) kicks us off with our hapless hero Brad going next door for a cup of sugar and stumbling onto a dirty movie
set. The lovely Marlene thinks he’s here for the porn role though and they soon undress and rehearse on the couch. Some great dialogue ensues
and Brad really does sound like a naïve middle class guy as he realizes what’s going on. The décor is killer too, with the pics on the wall, the
couch, Jesus on the cross… then onto an even cooler room where the director is waiting and soon enough Brad finds himself in a ginger sandwich
when Lenore shows up for her scene as well. Played for laughs by the director, who looks like a slumming Dick Miller with a bad DA hairdo, Brad
soon gets into the role. It must be said that the gals are pretty damn hot too, I mean gorgeous, what they’re doing in this no budget banger is
anyone’s guess. When Brad’s wife Millie shows up in her hot yellow pants suit the director has to do some sweet talking to save the show. Of
course she soon sheds the suit, (thank Christ) and even her wig before DA and her get it on. Meanwhile Brad and Lenore do some daytime soapie
acting as they tearfully farewell each other before deciding one last bang wouldn’t go astray! Surprisingly this scene is very sensual and well
filmed, nothing like the rest of the movie at all. The girls play chopsticks and muck about, Millie and Brad get back together (after all who could
resist his big undies?) and they all happily ever after. Played for laughs mainly, this is pretty funny. The director has some great lines. For
instance, when Brad asks, “Do I put it in now?” DA snaps back, “You’re faking that part, this is the American version.” And Brad and Marlene’s
early scenes are damn funny too.
Hell you’ll probably even get hard when Lenore and Brad get it on. What more could you want?
The Alley Cat (1971) kicks off with some great credits – Directed by Otto Von Lickit, Wardrobe by Goodie Will, Written by Minda Dirta, Camera by
Broken Lenz… a sense of humour never goes astra but it’s down hill from there really. Our hero Book is a struggling screenplay writer, his gal pal
Chessie is a whore. She does apparently give good head though going by the great oral sex facial expressions that everyone puts on when she’s
doing the bobble head movements bottom of screen. The first guy pulls some beauties and still manages to hold two drinks without spilling a
drop! What stands out though is the pixilation. Seems some real porn slipped in and I mean slipped in – nudge nudge… so we keep getting
pixilated dicks and that’s kinda off putting. Book gets Chessie a job on a porn movie so cue another director, this time in a beret and looking like
Doc from Love Boat. Threeways ensue while Book looks on jealously and we get pixilation. When Book finally lands a real gig writing he offers
Chessie his love. She loves him too much though to see him stuck with a whore like her and leaves him with a note and wistful look on his face.
Or maybe he just rolled into the wet spot. Chessie played by Sandy Dempsy is a looker but the camera angles of close up face shots every time
someone’s shagging really aren’t’ that complimentary but hell we are talking 70s soft porn no budget no brainer, wood grain rooms so what the
hell… right?
The big surprise is the movie STAR (1971)… if John Waters was straight, actually had a sense of humour and directed soft core porn, this is what
he would aspire to. A broken down porn star by the name of Gaye Ramon lays around rubbing fruit on her sexual organs, drinking wine and
offering ‘drama’ lessons from home. At first looking like Nikki Sixx with more cellulite, she then switches wigs and damned if she doesn’t then
become Vince Neil! No spring chicken, this unknown actress never lets the character go though, playing her role as the washed up old dame of the
street game to perfection. In a room crowded with junk and props like flags, rosary beads, Steve McQueen’s picture and more she gives her young
student lessons in dramatical acting that ain’t nothing like the stuff you saw on Fame. Throw in two rock chicks who stumble in and are palmed off
to her gardener/manager and the young student’s gal pal and the leopard print pillows and the gardener’s photo shoot with the rock chicks and
you got yourself a keeper. I’m surprised this took so long to come around, I woulda thunk this one was a cult film for sure. And you just know that
Motley Crue saw this somewhere on the strip in their early days.
The bonus movie Go Down For Double (1970) is one of John Holmes early flicks. Being soft-core though you don’t see the big fella at his best
anyway. A swinging couples flick for really ugly people it does provide us with one moment we probably never need see again. The main couple
Byron and Paula having sex in an armchair with Byron’s big white undies around his knees! I didn’t need that.
Special Features: Both discs have trailers for other After Hours Movies. From black and white fifties nudie pix to new millennium fake tits and
those little tattoos just above the g-string, it seems these guys have every angle covered.

Sleaze never goes out of fashion it just gets grittier. Thank gawd we have After Hours Cinema to remind us what real women look like. And as long as they keep digging out gems like Star, I’ll be watching.
