A cold case cop thriller that concerns a police officer who is on the case of a 30 year old murder case of a 5 year old girl, while also trying to solve a
recent murder they may or may-not be connected the only clue he has is a old photo of a lone woman standing by the child’s grave. Based on the
novel by Arnaldur Indrioason who is a well known author in his home country, from what I understand this a very close adaptation of his work.
This is one a thriller where there are not too many characters too like, the only one with any real morals is Inspector Erlender (fantastic
performance), everyone else in the film seems to be out for themselves or just not a friendly person and just mean. This makes the Inspector’s
jobs extra hard as he has to deal with his junkie daughter (another great turn by an actress who is known for her glamour roles) plus a very nasty
in-mate form his past.
I say this a lot in my reviews: I can not say a lot about the plot as it would give too much away, it best to watch Jar City with next to no idea of
what goes down. All the new twists or characters takes you deeper and closer to the truth.
A blockbuster in its native Iceland, it’s the kind of film that it is hard to find fault in: the cast is brilliant as is the direction and features some
beautiful cinematography, and lets not forget the wonderful score. In the end it will depend of how you like your police thrillers and CSI type
shows, myself I am not a huge fan of the genre but still wanted to keep watching up till the end.
The sole extra is a trailer that makes it look like a horror movie (as does the cover) but this the type of film that does not need a lot of extras. So
what are all you cop/thriller fans waiting for? Head on out and check out this out as soon as possible.
