In 2008 notorious serial killer, Camp Crystal Lake’s Jason Voorhees (Kane Hodder), with a body count of well over 200 victims, was finally captured
by the U.S Government who had great plans for Voorhees as the ultimate weapon to use against their enemies. A government researcher named
Rowan (Lexa Doig - Earth Final Conflict, The 4400), decided to neutralize the monster by cryogenically freezing him at the Crystal Lake Research
Facility. The year is now 2455, planet Earth’s atmosphere is no longer inhabitable so humanity ends up moving to a new planet called Earth 2. A
spaceship containing five students and a Professor Lowe (Jonathan Potts) enter the facility and find Jason and Rowan still cryogenically frozen.
Lowe wants to exploit his two major finds, by claiming he has found the oldest person revived from cryostats and on advising his financial broker of
Jason’s presence on the ship, is filled in on just who Jason Voorhees is and how much this monster is actually worth. Lowe becomes overly excited
on discovering he has a gold mine aboard his ship but sadly Jason’s body slowly thaws out, awakening Jason whose main instinct is still to kill, kill
and kill.

It’s been nearly 10 years since New Line Cinema bothered to release another installment in this most loved of slasher series. Just when you
thought Jason has killed everyone in everyway you can imagine,
Jason X takes him to a whole other level. This time Jason gets frozen like a cold
turkey and transported to another planet which is very similar to Earth, but along the way our favourite killer thaws out bringing him back to life to
continue his killing spree.
I was so excited to hear that Jason Voorhees was finally going to be coming back.  After a decade without seeing this killer slaughtering
teenagers, I was having bad
Friday the 13th withdrawals. So was the wait worth it? I’ve got to say Hell Yeah! There’s nothing better than to see
Jason back swinging his machete and doing what he does best. To top it off, writers Victor Miller and Todd Farmer take the massacre into outer
space where no one can hear their screams.
Over the years Jason Voorhees has gone through several appearance makeovers.  IE:
Friday the 13th: Part II (1981) to Friday the 13th: The
Final Chapter (1984)
, he went from potato sack to hockey mask look. And in Friday the 13th: Part VI - Jason Lives (1986) we saw the
resurrection of zombie Jason making him more unstoppable than ever before. Right up to
Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) aka Friday
the 13th: Part 9
where we saw a whole new side of Jason as his soul was able to possess anyone. Now with Friday the 13th: Part 10 - Jason X
(2001)
puts another new notch in this character’s belt as nano-bytes make Jason even more indestructible.
Jason X is probably a tad bit more sci-fi than actual horror and you need to forget about all the previous installments from Friday the 13th Part
VII: The New Blood (1988)
onwards because they will only just confuse the shit out of you.

Kane Hodder who has proven himself over and over again as the supreme Jason Voorhees lands the role once again. I thoroughly enjoyed
Hodder’s performance in
Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood (1988) as I believe that was probably his best work playing Voorhees. But
after watching
Jason X, Hodder takes this character beyond the limit of all actors/stuntman combined before him. Other cast members who landed
roles in
Jason X really aren’t worth getting too excited about. With most of them it felt like they were reading cue cards from a distance, or came
across being very independent.

The gore factor in this installment is probably at an all time high and is awarded a few extra votes. Gorehounds will definitely get their daily intake
of blood, guts and gore with this little beauty as people are stabbed, gutted in the stomach, heads smashed in, many scenes of limbs being
hacked off, dismemberments, impalements and the occasional throat slit scene to boot.

Sadly when it comes to the tits and ass factor, it sinks to a new all time level low. The
Friday the 13th series is well known for nudity scenes in
them, sadly in this movie you only get to see a couple of those scenes.

The musical score within
Jason X is pretty fucking terrible too, I honestly wanted to hunt down Harry Manfredini and choke the life out of him. Yes
this composer has done an awesome job with previous
Friday the 13th scores, but for some reason his work in Jason X just didn’t suit the movie
at all.

You are pretty much covered when it comes to the R1 version. With many commentaries from director Jim Isaac, writer Todd Farmer and producer
Noel Cunningham, an interesting documentary called “The Many Lives of Jason Voorhees” and “By Any Means Necessary: The Making of Jason X”,
death scenes and a trailer plus much, much more.

If I have to compare
Jason X to other movies, well it’s a wide mixture of 80s and early 90s classics like Aliens (1986), The Lawnmower Man
(1992)
, Predator (1987), Terminator (1984) and Robocop (1987) adding a few fresh kill scenes and the slasher appeal of all previous Friday
the 13th
movies from part 2 to 7 joined together. This movie isn’t the best or worst Friday the 13th movie, it’s just another installment for
Voorhees fans to get their new
Friday the 13th fix. To be honest, Jason X is going to be a movie you’ll either love or hate. Either way it’s out there
for you to check out, if you don’t like it, well you can always just have the option of owning it in your
Friday the 13th collection.
