Nathan Explosion (vocals), William Murderface (bass), and Pickles the Drummer, along with Scandinavian guitarists Toki Wartooth and Skwisgaar
Skwigelf is Dethklok. The worlds most brutal death metal band in the world, as they tour the world performing sold out show after shows, the band
is secretly being monitored by a government organization whose only purpose is to destroy the band at any given chance.
Metalocalypse was created by comedians Brendon Small and Tommy Blancha, with each episode running 20mins; this brutal 2 disc DVD set (region
4) from Australia’s Madman Entertainments Cartoon Network/Adult Swim is fucking priceless. Looking at the front cover the band kind of resembles
heavy metal bands Metallica, Guns 'N' Roses and mixture of death metal band Cannibal Corpse which is animated into a violent, graphic, in your
face, shock-humour South Park style animation show. Some of you might say (NO, what the hell are you on about guy), though when watching
each episode from Season 1 and also being a hardcore Metallica fan you definitely pick up on certain things that can be related prior to Metallica’s
history and tad bit of Cannibal Corpse, even the characters themselves resemble members from these three bands. Lead vocalist Nathan Explosion
reminded me of no other than vocalist George Fisher from Cannibal Corpse with his deep grunting vocals and even the character’aas appearance
resembled Fisher. Bassist William Murderface was a mixer of Jason Newstead and Cliff Burton, though I never thought I would ever say nothing
beats Burtons bass solo Pulling Teeth from the Masters of Puppets album, that’s until Murderface whips it out and plays a bass solo with his penis,
also gives a whole new term of slap bass doesn’t it?. Drummer Pickles appearance looks like Axel Rose from Guns ‘N’ Roses, but has the
personality of drummer Lars Ulrich from Metallica. Where the two Scandinavian Guitarists, Toki Wartooth and Skwisgaar Skwigelf whom to me come
across as Kirk Hammett an James Hetfield from again Metallica. And not to mention the entire whole band is voiced by both creators, Brendon Small
and Tommy Blancha, which gives that South Parks feel towards the film. But the one thing that really freaks me out, is that when you see this band
play and being an animation movie where they have there fingers is EXACTLY where they are supposed to be. Those who know how to play the
guitar will pick up on this themselves, but I just thought I’d share that with you all. It just goes to show the creators went to a lot of trouble to
make this show realistic as possible, for our enjoyment.
But since we are on the subject of these famous musicians, just to let you all know in Season 1 James Hetfield, Kirk Hammet and George Fisher
have voice cameos in this show. Hetfield appears in 4 episodes which are Dethkomedy as character Lorkey, Dethtroll as the Troll, Birthdayface as
the Snipper and The Curse of Dethklok as a fan. Kirk Hammet has 3 cameos which are Dethtroll as Barkeep, Birthdayface as the Queen of Denmark
(hahaha don’t ask) and The Curse of Dethklok also as a fan. George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher also has 4 cameos in episodes The Metalocalypse Has
Begun, Dethkids, Bluesklok and Go Forth and Die as himself.
As for the animation gore effect, well I can’t even fault this show one bit… it’s most definitely top notch animation. You will see people having their
heads shot off, head butted to death, broken noses, wolfs tearing apart helpless humans, troll swallowing village people, beheadings…. Shit I
could go on and on, gorehounds will get their jerk on that’s for sure.
The DVD extra department is a beaut, where you get a private guitar lesson by character Skwisgaar Skwigelf showing you a step by step how to
play the jingle for the Duncan Hills Coffee company. How fucking wicked is that? I actually am talking about a step by step guide how to tap,
hammer and slide. Again I have never seen a show ever do this, so when watching it for the first time I had to grab the axe and give it a quick
belt. It’s a fairly simple tune, but when played right it sounds sick.
Madman Entertainments Metalocalypse: Season 1 is without a doubt an addictive show, grabbing any heavy/death metal fan by the balls and
before you know it you will be air-guitaring and head banging to every single episode. It’s fucking amazing to see Brendon Small and Tommy
Blancha put together a crazy series, and to come up with a fresh new concept to create a animation show especially targeted for metal heads all
over the world called Metalocalypse. We at DVD Resurrections highly recommend Metalocalypse to anyone who loves metal, but BEWARE when
viewing this show it can cause some serious whiplash. Trust me I am still feeling the effects of it.
