Skinned Alive
DVD/APPROX. 78 MINS/1989/USA UNRATED
Skinned Alive is about a deranged family of serial killers who travel around in a van, Crawldaddy's Traveling Tannery, in which they either kill and
skin humans alive and make leather goods out of them to sell. Firstly, they see a hitchhiker (Jon Killough) on the highway hitching his way across
the state and as soon as the van pulls up and he opens the door, Violet (Susan Rothacker) gives him a good boot right in the face and then drives
off in the van laughing. Dazed and confused because of what just happened, he slowly gets up, when Phink (Scott Speigel), who’s Violet’s brother,
jumps out of the bushes with his mother, Crawldaddy (Mary Jackson), who’s crippled and wears a eye patch, sneaks up behind the hitchhiker,
smashes him in the head with a hammer and then pulls out a handgun & blows his brains out all over the highway, while the mother watches and
laughs like a retard. Soon after a fat business guy, Willard (Mike Render), breaks down in his car on the highway, Crawldaddy and her kids pull up
in the van to assist him and see if he needs help. Willard offers to give them tickets to a Wayne Newton all nude revue concert in Las Vegas. Phink,
who hates Wayne Newton, pulls out a machete and swings it at Willard, cutting off his tie. This freaks him out and he starts to run off into the corn
fields screaming. He is then tracked down and slaughtered in a gruesome manner by Phink & Violet. They both drag his lard ass back to the van
where they discuss skinning him and making leather jackets and boots. Willard then lays up in the van screaming in terror while blood bubbles and
spits out of his mouth and jumps out of the van’s open door. Phink quickly grabs the handgun and pops a few rounds into Willards back.
Crawldaddy is now pissed off cause they can’t use his skin any longer, due to all the bullets Phink put into him, so they just drag his bullet hole
ridden carcass into the middle of the cornfield where they tie him to a scarecrow cross with his Wayne Newton tickets stuffed into his mouth. Once
back at the van, Violet tries to start it, but for some reason it just wont go, so they find the local mechanic, Tom Miles (Lester Clark), who offers to
let the family stay at his house with him & his wife, Whinnie (Barbara Katz Norrod), until he gets the van up & running again. While they’re staying
with Tom and his wife anyone who visits their house, including a Jehovah's Witness (J.R. Bookwalter) and a delivery boy (Mike Shea), are brutally
slaughtered. Tom's next door neighbour, Paul Hickox (Floyd Ewing Jr), who used to be a cop, catches on and realizes that the strange family
staying with Tom are nothing but a pack of wild serial killers, so he decides he’s going to put a end to them all, even if he dies trying.
This movie was a little different then other films I have seen. I guess it’s the way you look at it, I remember seeing this a while back and it was on
a pretty fucked up VHS, I think I remember switching the tape off cause it was chewed to shit, but that was before Tempe Entertainment
remastered it and released it on DVD. Man, what a nice transfer, a crisp picture & clean audio really makes a film much more enjoyable to watch.
Skinned Alive is jam packed with shit loads of extras that will keep you busy for a while. The acting was funny as Hell, what a loving mother
Crawldaddy was, every 2nd word out of her mouth was fuck this and fuck that (laughs) beautiful. Skinned Alive has the gore, humour,
atmosphere and tension build up like no other horror movie I have seen. Just remember to have an open mind when watching Skinned Alive.
Mary Jackson (aka Crawldaddy) is incredibly funny and will have you in stitches and rolling on the floor laughing.
Overall this film will probably be only appreciated by those that are interested in low budget horror comedy film making.

Crawldaddy and her two incestuous kids, Phink and Violet, have been travelling cross-country selling fine leather apparel from their van. When an ex-cop discovers the clan has been killing people and skinning them, he realizes where they are getting the hides used to produce their wares. This oddball, energetic, low-budget horror comedy was produced by underground auteur J.R. Bookwalter (THE DEAD NEXT DOOR).
