Starbucking
DVD/APPROX. 00 MINS/2005/USA UNRATED
Starbucking is a documentary about an obsessive compulsive/narcissistic man called Winter and his pathological need to visit every Starbucks in
the world. After watching the film, I still don’t know what to make of him. He seemed to me, to be very fake and contradictory. In some respects,
this phenomena seems to be his raison d’être, but when he talks about doing it for being famous and when asked if he gets sick of doing it replies
“It got old ages ago, but a goal is a goal”. It tends to make you question his reasons, for the love? Or for the fame?
Other times, his heart really seems to be in it, we are told by his girlfriend that he neglects tourist attractions to focus on getting through the
towns Starbucks. He meets up with “The Denny’s Guy” (a guy who is on the same buzz as Winter, except with Denny’s.) You can tell Winter is
really condescending towards him and is shocked at “The Denny’s guy‘s” lack of commitment, that and the fact that he has never had Starbucks
(but hey I haven’t either, I like real coffee, not candy coffee)
His goal is to visit and drink coffee from every Starbucks in the world. In the beginning he visited 1400 stores and never thought about all of the
new Starbucks being erected, and aims to visit all the new Starbucks being made. At the end of the documentary he states he has visited 4800
Starbucks across America, Europe and Japan. For more up to date information on Winter and his expedition click here to view his website.
The film wasn’t that entertaining, the parts that were supposed to be weren’t. I felt Winter’s coffee induced tremors and sporadic outbursts of
weird noises, screaming and running (seemed more like ADD symptoms that excessive coffee intake) Overall I feel it is a ploy to be famous and get
money, I mean if you are doing it because you love it, you wouldn’t have a manager…..It kind of made me feel really sick how celebrity obsessed
America is, there were lots of interviews and footage of fans spouting their love for Winter, as well as him signing cups, mugs, aprons and lots of
other crap.
There are a few entertaining scenes but they are all deleted scenes, his encounter with a ticket operator at an amusement park who does not
know how to hold, use or speak into a cell phone, a chipmunk on the loose freaking everyone out at the amusement park, Winter’s road rage
episodes and his anger at getting nowhere in a Scrabble tournament.
Overall I don’t think this is a film that belongs in your collection, but worth a watch if you see it on the documentary channel or something, or if you
are really, really obsessed with Starbucks.

Follow the bizarre story of Winter a man who has dedicated his life to visiting every Starbucks in the world. Why would someone choose such a seemingly pointless and impossible mission in life and spend the last 10 years trying to accomplish it? STARBUCKING is truly the ultimate road movie. The story takes place on location everywhere including the friendly neighborhood Starbucks down the street from your house. Sit back have a cup of joe and watch as one man defies society's norms in a never ending search for the lady in green.
