Taxidermia takes a look into the lives of three Hungarian men. What connects these 3 men? Well they are in fact Grandfather, Father & Son.
Taxidermia
starts off following the life of the Grandfather, a soldier in an army of 2 (!) who is a genuine sexual deviant. If he isn’t spending all day
masturbating with either his hand or a hole in the wall of his cabin (which I must admit seems to be a homage to a scene from
Porky's) or fucking
Pig carcasses, then he is daydreaming about either having sex with his commanding officer’s daughter and obese wife, using his cock as a blow
torch or shooting a load into orbit!

At some point in time he managed to have his way with his commanding officer’s wife, as she gives birth to a son (who was born with a tail!). On
the same day the Soldier is caught having sex with a pig carcass by the lieutenant who proceeds to blow his head off.

The middle section jumps forward about 30 years and  follows the son, who has turned into a morbidly obese Champion Speed Eater for Hungary.
His life entails eating copious amounts of food, and  vomiting it back up again in time for Round 2! This guy is so good that he even has a Vomiting
Style named after him! Anyways this section of the film follows him on his escapades as a champion eater and takes a look at his love life where he
meets a fat ass female Speed Eater. The pair fall in love and have a child, but something is different with this child....

Fast forward another 30 years or so and the son is a rail thin Taxidermist, who is absolutely shithouse when it comes to talking to the opposite
sex. The Father is about 4 times the size that he used to be and is confined to a chair. In his eyes his son is a disappointment because he is not a
2 Tonne man. To make up for his disappointment, he keeps a few cats locked in a cage and is training them to become Speed Eaters! One day
after a massive argument with his Father, the son accidentally leaves the cat cage open, and comes home the next day to find that his precious
cats have decided to do some Speed Eating on his guts!

So what’s a young Taxidermist supposed to do in this situation?? Why stuff his dad of course! Upon seeing the finished product, the son comes up
with the ingenious idea to kill himself and perform a Taxidermy procedure on himself with the aid of one hell of a Suicide Machine! The final shot of
the film is in an art gallery with both The Father & Son on display...

So what’s all the point of this then? Well
Taxidermia appears to send the message out that stupid people do stupid things, and that peoples sins
will eventually catch up with them, but it’s not quite spelled out in big letters or anything.
Taxidermia is a very” out-there" Surrealist type of film,
but not quite on the same wave length as say Alejandro Jodorowsky. No,
Taxidermia has a look and feel all of its own and it is easy to say that
you have never seen anything quite like it! In Fact I will wager my own testicles on it that there has never been another movie quite like this!
Showing the sickest side of the human mind. there is plenty of vomiting, spoofing and other assorted nasties going here, but this isn’t just here for
shock value. Every single frame has something to say in a very warped, roundabout kind of way.

But it must be said that this isn’t just some crappy looking low budget wanna be shocker.
Taxidermia is absolutely masterfully photographed and
has a rather coherent plot, but quite where writer/director György Pálfi got his ideas for the story from I don't think I want to know!!

Taxidermia is highly recommended to anyone and everyone, not just the sheer insanity of the storyline, but because this is a real fun, dark & ugly
picture that is absolutely destined to become a cult classic. Also have fun trying to pigeonhole it to a certain genre, because I know I bloody well
can’t!

Taxidermia has been unleashed in R4 land by those wonderful folk at Siren Visual in a stunning enhanced 16:9 Widescreen transfer with 2.0
stereo sound. Extras include an interview with SBS film guru David Stratten and director György Pálfi, and the trailer. Language is Hungarian with
English subs.

The heroes of "Taxidermia" are three men. Three generations of a family, who happen to live in
Eastern-Europe, in Hungary. The 'Balatony Saga' is just like a subjective history of the second half of
the 20th century told by Lajos, the youngest member of the family. Surrealism and historical facts get
mixed up in his imagination, creating a kind of "fairy realism", like for example in Marquez' novels. Or in
the works of the popular contemporary Hungarian writer, Parti Nagy Lajos - the script is based on some
of his stories.

Lajos, the young artist talks about defencelessness and loneliness: he tells the story of his
grandfather, the awkward batman of a ruthless captain in the 2nd World War, who is just longing for
being loved. He also talks about ambitions and frustrations, telling the story of his father, Kalman, his
mystical birth and his career as a professional sportsman during the socialist era. He just wanted to be
famous, to win the Olympic Games in L.A., but as it is known, the socialist countries didn't take part in
the games. And finally Lajos talks about himself, the 'sculptor of organic material', who is being loved,
who is famous, but who is just carving for eternity. He wants to create the most perfect work of art of
all times: to stuff himself.

While working on his body, he tells us all the important things about himself and his origin, that "Once
upon a time there was a chubby little baby, having a tiny little pigtail, who happened to be my father..."
