"THE DEAD WILL FEED"
The Mad
DVD/APPROX. 83 MINS/2006/USA UNRATED
The Mad is roughly about a doctor/father named Jason Hunt (Billy Zane.) He is trying to
re-connect his relationship with his daughter Amy (Maggie Castle) while trying to keep Amy's sex crazed boyfriend at a reasonable distance, and
on top of everything else he is trying his hardest to impress his new girlfriend Monica (Shauna MacDonald) by taking them all on a road trip through
the countryside to a cabin in the mountains. When stopping in a near by town road house on the way to the cabin, they decide to get something
to eat at the local diner. The special of the day is 100% local pure beef hamburgers, which hours later after digesting them, turns them into flesh
hungry zombies. The doc and his family are soon in the midst of a zombie infestation, when the local towns people become infected by the burgers,
and find themselves on the run by the ghouls, while trying to keep his relationship with his daughter at bay.

When coming into contact with this film, I wasn't too sure what to exactly expect when viewing it for the first time. It had on the back of the cover
Billy Zane fighting off zombies, which definitely sold me in a heart beat. Once getting home, I couldn't wait to see what I was in for, so I had to
watch the film straight away. Apart from the 10 to 15 minutes of watching cows eat, drink, shit and trying to get freaky, I had to hit the fast
forward button a few times. Then we get to see a farmer grinding up some meat for the local diner, to sell for their daily special which are
Hamburgers. Turns out the farmer was not allowed to sell any meat to anyone, due to the fact his cattle became in contact with some type of
poison or disease, which I am guessing its Mad Cow Disease?. So he was supposed to kill all his live stock, but instead he found some type of
chemical on the Internet that was supposed to reverse the side effects and save his cows from dying. Unfortunately it was the opposite, they end
up becoming infected even worst than before, and anyone who kills, and then eats the beast, instantly becomes a zombie. This is where the
doctor lays the smack down on a few zombies, while keeping a cool understanding down to earth relationship with his daughter, in hopes she will
like his new girlfriend Monica.

Sounds cool huh? Well not exactly..
The Mad is a goof ball horror comedy that is meant to be loved by those who love brain dead zombie films. It
has a ridiculously dark humored script, that at times makes no sense at all, and is hard to follow from time to time. 20 minutes into the film you will
find yourself starring at the ass end of a cow, when you would rather be watching zombies tearing apart their helpless victims. Director John
Kalangis had a good idea for a zombie film, but with a cheesy script it just made the film uneasy to watch at times, and came off rather boring.

The acting wasn't too bad at times, Billy Zane is a legendary actor and I have enjoyed many, many of his films over the years… Sadly not even he
can really save this film for the meat grinder, but still he gave an awesome, outstanding performance throughout the film. Maggie Castle was
another cast member who also played an interesting role within the film.

The gore factor of
The Mad, was borderline for me. It had a few gore moments that were interesting, but not enough of them to save the film.
Once the scenes of the meat patties began coming to life and devouring the zombies or humans, it felt like watching a low, low budget version of
Slithers, where instead of them being alien slugs, they were meat patties.

If you are a huge fan of Billy Zane, well I believe you will enjoy this film. But if you are a die hard zombie fan and take your films seriously, I highly
recommend you stay away from this film by all costs. Wait until it reaches the video shelves, before digging deep into your pockets to buy this film..
Unless you have a cow fetish, and like to watch a bit of bestiality from time to time, then go ahead.
