The Prowler
DVD/APPROX. 89 MINS/1981/USA R18+
The humble Slasher. Every man and his dog were making these after the huge success of Halloween & Friday The 13th in the 80's. Many were
plain forgettable pieces of shit. Some were even quite good. And then there are ones like this that sort of slipped through the radar a bit only to
be rediscovered as a genuine gem.

Avalon Bay 1945. Soldiers are returning home from war and a Graduation Dance is being held. Young Rosemary and her boyfriend are murdered by
a prowler, thought to be one of the returned Soldiers. The killer was never found.

30 years later in Avalon Bay. A Graduation dance is being held for the first time since the murders of 1945. Young people are on the piss and
dancing whilst an unknown individual is hiding around campus in clothes that look suspiciously like a 1940's war uniform! The prowler takes his
time picking his victims and killing them off in some particularly brutal fashions (for a slasher, that is). Plenty of stabbing's, throat slashing and head
spikings tally up the body count. However there is more to it than that. Everything in this movie,no matter how derivative of other slashers before
& after, actually works very well to make a very fast paced film with a lot of guess work and stuff.

The R1 Disc from Blue Underground is a shit hot affair. The film is fairly grainy, but this is the best it has ever looked!! The grain whilst hardly
noticeable, actually adds to the film instead of detracting. Behind the Scenes gore footage with Tom Savini, a commentary by Savini and Director
Joseph Zito (
Friday the 13th 4) is included but has not been listened to at this point in time!! Stills Gallery and Theatrical Trailer round out the
extras.

This is a must view for Slasher fans, and ordinary Horror fans (like yours truly) will still wanna check this out, for it is indeed a bloody good show!

At the graduation celebration held at an exclusive girl's school, a uniformed intruder commits violent
acts against the partygoers. The khaki-clad maniac impales his unfortunate victims with a bayonet. This
masterwork of stylish gore is one of the most beloved cult slashers of the 1980's, and features a strong
performance by famed actor Farley Granger, whose performance in Hitchcock's
STRANGERS IN A
TRAIN
proved him to be a compelling horror actor.
