The Pumpkin Karver
DVD/APPROX. 87 MINS/2006/USA R18+
Its October the 31st and Jonathan Starks (Michael Zara) is sitting down at the kitchen table craving a pumpkin for Halloween. But mean while a
serial killer who is wearing a pumpkin head mask sneaks into the house, and makes his way up the stairs and into Jonathan's older sisters Lynn
Starks (Amy Weber) bedroom, where she is currently getting dress to go to a fancy dress party with her boyfriend Alec (David J. Wright). Jonathan
hears his sister screaming for help and quickly runs to her room where he finds Lynn laying on the floor curled up holding her stomach crying, while
a mask intruder is standing over her holding a knife in his hand. Jonathan quickly attacks the killer with his pumpkin craver knife and stabs him in
the eye, which brings the killer to his knees, then Jonathan viciously and repeatedly stabs the mask killer in the stomach. Lynn gets up off the floor
and realizes that the knife she was stabbed with was fake and this was nothing but a childish Halloween prank from her boyfriend Alec. The police
soon arrive and doesn't charge Jonathan for murder, due to it was just a Halloween prank gone wrong.
A year later Jonathan and Lynn have moved to a small town called Craver, where Lynn is meeting up with a old friend at a Halloween party on a
pumpkin farm. Jonathan not quiet come to terms of what he done one year ago, starts having weird visions of a the pumpkin mask killer at the
pumpkin farm which soon ends up stalking Jonathan. Later though the night dead bodies start to pile up around the farm, and Jonathan is left to
face his own demons, while Lynn uncovers a deep dark secret!
This is another Independent Halloween slasher film, that you usually see coming out on DVD out right about now just before Halloween. Pumpkin
Karver is one of those films you have to watch with your brain turned off to actually enjoy it, the gore was awesome for a low budget film, the
acting was some what believable, but the story is probably what kills it. Like come on, why the hell would you want to take a family member to a
small town or even to a pumpkin farm when 1 year ago they killed your lover with a pumpkin craver knife? Why take them to a Halloween party if
they are having visions of seeing a pumpkin mask killer? Shit you will throw them in mental hospital until they got there shit together, wouldn't you.
Well any enough of my bitching and back to the review, the death scenes are pretty damn sweet, but what i enjoyed the most about this slasher
is that he manages toalways leave his trade mark behind, which he craved there faces to look like a Halloween pumpkin (Laughs), he even jams a
light candle in this girl mouth.
The Pumpkin Karver is a very cool film to sit down to and veg out on one night with a few friends, and not to mention the ending had a kinda of a
weird twist to it. Those who are fans of the Jack O' movies well you are probably going to enjoy this movie more than the rest of us, and you'll
need to check this movie out especially before Halloween next year. Pumpkin Karver is mainly targeted for the MTV generation, so those who love
films like Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Candyman will also enjoy this film, anyone else will simply think its a rather dull or a piece
of shit.
I personally would rather you rent this before you actually go and buy it on DVD. Unless the DVD is in a $10 bargain bin at a video store, then its a
done deal.
