"On 4.20, Hippie Blood Will Trickle Down"
|
The Tripper
DVD/APPROX. 97 MINS/2007/USA UNRATED
It’s 1967 and a bunch of tree hugging protesting hippies won’t allow contractors to cut down anymore trees in the forests of Northern California.
That’s until a lumberjack named Bert (Bert Kinyon) rocks up with his young son, pissed off cause the protesters have stopped the workers from
reaching the deadline. Bert is then assaulted with a rock to the head by one of the hippies, just when the police arrive on the scene, he pulls out
his handgun to scare them off. Unfortunately his plan back fires, and he is arrested in front of his young mentally unstable son Gus (Noah
Maschan), whom grabs a chainsaw near by and kills the man in cold blood who assaulted his father. He is then charged and committed to a mental
institution. Thirty years later, a group of stoner hippies Joey (Jason Mewes), Linda (Marsha Thomason), Jack (Stephen Heath), Jade (Paz de la
Huerta) and Ivan (Lukas Haas) accompanied by Ivan's girlfriend Samantha (Jamie King) are slowly making their way to a Music and Love Festival
that is held in the Northern Californian woods. Along the way they are harassed by three local rednecks who don't take too kind to hippies, and
they begin to terrorize the group. While tripping out on acid, smoking blunts, popping ecstasy and eating magic mushrooms, an axe wielding
maniac serial killer dressed like Ronald Reagan is on the loose in the woods, chopping, slicing and dicing his way through the crowded festival…
Filmmaker / Actor David Arquette brings us a tripped out, psychedelic hippie slaughtering new aged film called The Tripper. David has starred in
several well known films in his acting career such as Wes Craven's Scream trilogy which in Scream 3 he proposed on-set to the beautiful actress
Courteney Cox from TV show Friends. He also had the lead role in Eight Legged Freaks, and not to mention one of my all time favourite films
3000 Miles to Graceland. Now David attempts to tackle both the directors chair and writer for his full length feature film The Tripper. Over the
years we have seen slashers come, and slashers go, and only a good handful have only made it to this very day. Well the wait is over, and like the
tagline said "Move Over Jason, Look Out Freddie. HEEERE'S RONNIE!" (sadly it’s not Freddie it is Freddy, but who gives a fuck). Finally someone has
stepped up to the plate, and knocked the ball out of the ball park by creating us a new all round Hollywood slasher or should I say Hippie slasher.
The Tripper is a horror/comedy slasher movie, to describe this film it’s like Dazed and Confused meets Friday the 13th from start to finish. All
horror maniacs, gorehounds and even the MTV generation are definitely going to get their jerk on with this film. From spinning out on a guy in a
Ronald Reagan outfit, to the light show, massive amounts of drugs passed around to a very well known cast such as legendary Jason Mewes as
we all know very well as the drug smoking, fast talking, foul mouthed and over sexed, but very likeable Jay in (Clerks, Clerks 2, Feast and
Mallrats) Paul Rueben aka character Peewee Herman, and Lukas Haas (Lady in White, The Cradle) just to name a few. I have been a huge fan of
Jason Mewes since he first appeared on screen in Kevin Smith's hilarious low budget hit Clerks in 1994, what can I say? the guy is fucking
awesome. Courteney Cox also has a cameo in the film and so does David Arquette himself as one of the rednecks.
Yes you do get to see a fair amount of tits and ass, it’s a hippie film. There are plenty of boobs, plastic silicone tits, floppy tits, ittie little bittie tittes
and boobs covered in blood. There are also fully nude hippies who don't believe in using razors, no hairy arm pit hippies thank fuck, but you do
see one guy walking around butt naked who is hung like a budgiegard, I guess smoking does stunt your growth.
There’s many gore moments I loved in this film, from a severed hand, a decapitation scene, a hippie dragged naked through the forest to be
gutted, impalements, dogs chewing the shit out of hippies, heaps of bloody limbs, guts and more gore. Though it could of done with a bit more
blood in the film, but still there is enough to get any gorehound by.
David Arquette's The Tripper is definitely going to be one unforgettable slasher film for many years to come. I highly recommend this DVD to any
horror, drug smoking and slasher fans who reads this review, go buy this DVD right now. Also stay tuned… for there may be a sequel in the works!

Directed by, co-written by and starring David Arquette, this classic horror movie revolves around a group of friends who escape to a modern-day Woodstock concert for a weekend of debauchery, only to be stalked by a homicidal maniac determined to finish what he started years earlier.
