Breaking Nikki is the story of a man called Devon, who hires a call girl to play the part
of his ex-wife, Susan. Nikki is the call girl who becomes part of this lunacy that Devon
has planned and has in store for her.

I cannot express how much I truly loathed this film. There was not one component of
this whole film and not one aspect that I enjoyed. I really had to force myself to sit
through this banal, boring, and tedious indie flick that I saw no purpose in watching.
It had elements of torture, sexual sadism and eroticism-but filmed and executed in the
most appallingly dull manner. On top of all this, the film is sort of confusing and if one
is distracted or not paying extremely close-attention, subtle plot points will be missed
and the viewer really will be utterly lost.

I really did not even want to write a review for this film because that would mean that
I had to “relive” this nightmare, which under regular conditions would be something I
would have relished in. The film’s lead actor, Oliver Kolker, who plays Devon, had the
most annoying accent that I have ever heard. Every time that Kolker spoke I wanted to
thrust my fist through the television screen and grasp his neck and just squeeze the life
out of him to change the pitch and intonation of his voice. He talked in this film a fair
amount of the time, which only made matters worse.

Director Hernan Findling also co-wrote this screenplay with Nicanor Loreti, taken from
a story by German Val. What saddens me the most is that Redemption Films, who
normally puts out and distributes some very solid films, chose Breaking Nikki as a film
they obviously thought was something special. Well, this critic found nothing
redeeming whatsoever in viewing this film. The super close-up shots were routine.
Camera angles uninspiring and the only performances that I felt were any good at all
were those given by Maria Ines Alonso (Nikki) and Veronica Mari (Susan). Veronica Mari
also was locked up in a cage for most of the film, which probably was not the most fun
or easiest thing to be doing. I really would like to have seen Veronica Mari in the film
more, as she is a beautiful actress. She was only seen for brief instances, most of
which were flashback footage taken on a video camera of poor quality.

Was it very violent? No. Although it could have been far more gruesome and intense if
the director chose to go that route, which would have made me happier and much
more interested. The film is light on gore, violence, sex, nudity and action. The film
does not have much action. I felt as if I was walking through an endless art gallery of
artwork that I had no interest in at all and was in some sort of purgatory for unknown
sins I had committed. I may be very harsh in my criticism for this film, but I hated it. I
hated this film more than most films I never liked. I tend to see the good points in
most films, even those I dislike, but I really did not enjoy anything about this film
except one pretty actresses’ face.

The video quality was fine. There were no major or significant flaws that I noticed.

The sound was fine and levels were heard ok.

No audio commentaries, but there was a lengthy behind the scenes segment that was
infinitely more interesting than the film itself, but that is not saying too much. All
those involved with the film have some comments to say about the process of making
the film, as well a bunch of candid scenes of shots being filmed.

I utterly hated this film and think it is by far one of the worst films I have ever seen. I
did not even think it was so bad its good, partly because everything is just so damn
average, technically speaking. It just went nowhere at a very slow pace. I recommend
avoiding this film at all costs. If you can last 20 minutes through it, you are either
under the influence, completely high on drugs, or doing other things to keep your mind
on something else. I was so easily distracted during this film and one should not have
to “concentrate” on being entertained.
